easy question: How do i calibrate my compass? it looks like its working then it will scroll across "calibrate compass"

mfewtrail

IIRC, you'll need to hit calibrate and then drive the car in circles(about 3 complete ones) until is says calibrated and then face the car north and hit the north button.....sorry its kinda vague, but I haven't looked at the driver's info center in my car for a while now 8)

1. Drive to an open area, like a large empty parking lot. You need to be able to drive safely in circles. Be sure the place is not only free of other cars, but also away from power lines or large metal buildings.

2. With the engine running and ALL of the accessories off, push "CAL" on the console extension. The word "CALIB" should be displayed.

3. Be sure there's not traffic, and then slowly drive in a circle. Don't go faster than 5mph because the car needs to stay level.

4. When the compass is oriented, the word "CALSET" will be displayed.

5. Locate True North

6. Point the front of the vehicle at North.

7. Press "NORTH" on the console extension. The words "N SET" will be displayed.

Your compass should now be calibrated. If you travel more than 500 miles, you will need to reset the compass. Point the car at True North and press the "NORTH" button. You don't have to redo steps 1 though 4.

That's what the owner's manual says ;)

Huh? You mean Y2K compliant? What does that have to do with the compass?  :? I know the calendar and day part of mine must be Y2k compliant. I set it back in Feb. when I got the car, and it sitched to March correctly.  8)

Who says it's not Y2K compliant?  I also wondered about that on mine but I didn't have a problem setting it to the correct 2003 date..  Mine is a 1990 TGP.  Are there really some that have a problem?

Same here. Like I said before, I had no problem setting it to the correct date. I was wondering if there were other people that did have a problem as well?  :?

The one that was in my TGP when I got it wouldn't stay set. It would keep the date until you shut the key off. When I put a new console in I replaced the DIC also and this one works.

I set mine just the other day and it's just fine.  No problems.
