Title: Plenum Spacers
Post by: z284pwr on July 28, 2006, 02:56:06 PM
For those that don't venture onto the W-Body forum....

I'm curious to see if anyone is interested in a set of Plenum spacers....The main idea behind these as it stands is to make a direct port alcohol or nitrous injection setup for them. I have talked to a good guy that does a lot ofnice custom machine work for the GMFWD guys that would make them out of either aluminum *for the nozzles* or phenolic for those that just want spacers...

what would that achieve??

having spacers in for those not wanting the "ports" just spacers?

(serious question as i dunno about them)  :icon_neutral:

Seriously, like the 3.1 intake runners need to be any longer.  It's a good idea for nitrous or alcohol/water injection though.   :icon_mrgreen:

haha no shit about the runners!

seriously though
it would be something to consider for the future!!  how thick of a spacer are we talking?? .5"?? as small as you can get away with i suppose!   how much $$$

if they were cheap enough and you had a set made i might buy a set just incase i ever decide to do some serious work.  or see how much hp can be made with the stock t25/high boost/alch/h2o injection!

The guy says he can get 3/4" or 1" and besides, if smaller are desired, nothing stops from filing some material off with say a belt sander or something, then smoothed out.

Right now, he says
Quotefor one set at a time:

3/4 inch  $90
1 inch     $95

for 5 set or more:

3/4 inch  $80
1 inch     $85

Which I was suprised was so cheap...I expected more..
I was just curious to see if anyone else would be to get it more than 5 sets, I'm getting a set either way.

What exactly are you hopeing to gain with plenum spacers? The space between the upper and lower plenum is not the problem on the intake side. The poorly flowing heads are the issue along with the pancake style upper plenum.

I have something in mind for an answer on the stock upper and still have our signature plenum. ;)

he's getting them to have threaded ports for "direct" alcohol/nitrous nozzles...not just for spacing.

i might take a set for that price...how are you gonna deal with money and shipping??

I was just waiting to see about interest first as I posted this on the Beretta boards I'm on too since they are 3.1 engines as well....
If I found more than 5 people I was gonna figure that out, but if no one is really interested I'll just tell the guy I'll take a set by myself....

Oh and shipping is $10 to either US OR Canada as the guy is in Canada actually...

I'm not to worried about the spacing as my engine has no bottom end anyways, I want it to cool the intake charge from the punny ass T25 for now if I can figure out how to mount the nozzles I've got and where to mount the pump I'll be in good shape, I think I can even figure out a way to run the hose under the plenum so its completely out of view....

http://www.mrzperformance.com/ That is the guy's store incase anyone wants to see the validity of his work....

Oh yeah Kenny, whats this abou our "signature plenum" work around thing.....

I have gotten quite discouraged with all this talk about these "upgrades" that just never seem to come out from so many places :icon_cry:

You have to forgive me to not release what I intend to do until I know it works. With a dyno at my finger tips I will be able to make sure there is a power increase..not just some BS look good setup.

I know I promised some upgrades for folks for the LG5 setup in early summer...but when you try to secure loans and start a new business it takes every second of your day.

Good things will come...be patient with me! ;)

Oh all patients here :) Hopefully it all goes well with your business . . . When you get it figured all out I may have to talk you about a dyno tune for the TGP if we drive over there...It definitely needs it.  I would assume you will have a wideband for WOT tuning?

W/B 02? What is that?

  My dyno is the best dyno on the market. It is fully decked out for tuning. Nicest part about it is the fact it is not some POS inertia dyno. My dyno is an eddy current fully loading dyno. As long as the car is under 800HP I can do full tunes from idle speed to WOT and every map point in between. On an inertia type dyno it is WOT tuning or nothing. Mine is WOT down to part throttle steady state. The dyno will simulate hills...mountain pulls...flat land...down hill...you name it. It will also graph up to 1200 HP and 2800 ft/lbs of torque to the wheels.

I am definitely paying for top of the line...but you get what you pay for!! ;)

Sweet action, I'll definitely be giving you a call when we get the bigger turbo setup in and what not...no more off the wall style.  After having seen how the engine reacted just N/A with Haltech, it just doesn't run like it should thats all I know :icon_mad:  I'm sure if we can do 17 hours straight to Wyoming and back, Colorado is nothing

he will drill and tap them if prefered.  I am not using nitrous nozzles so I don't need to be having a hole thats be big and I can't use them, so I'll just do the drilling/tapping myself.

Also, yeah, those should work, why wouldn't they?  He said he would guarantee all fitment of items so I'm sure they would...I may have to get one of them myself, he said they are available in various sizes, so I'm sure he could probably get bigger too

I think most of us that have been around awhile can figure out the hint  Considering there are only a few that have, its pretty easy to tell

next time you talk to him you should ask him....i though our used a different tb...at least when i comes to the vaccum block or what ever you wanna call it...im sure there a way to make it work though!

he so what kind of injection setup are you gonna run??  and what kind of boost??

I will ask him that...I'm not as worried about the vacuum block as I have most of my ports custom anyway off the back or side.  I was actually thinking of just taping the top vacuum thing and running allen head screws in it and making my own vacuum lines from somewhere else...

For mine, I'm gonna do close to what the Kenton guys, the guy that has that remote mount Cavalier that runs like 12.xx or so and another ones.  Its a SHURflo 8000-543-236 that was only like $77 shipped actually, beats the $200+ for the oil scavange pump I had gotten from them a while back.

Then these weird farm misting nozzles, which I still and working on how I'm going to mount them inside a spacer I have an idea though.  Then I'll figure out a distribution "block" from the pump to the seperate nozzles and have a check valve to make sure it doesn't suck any alcohol in until ~6-7 PSI.  Just have a pressure switch that turns the pump on a that same PSI and a switch in the interior to turn it on to.  I may use the security light as an indication that its on.  The main idea is to run it all under the plenum to keep all plumbing out of sight.  We'll see, the transmission is done and will be put back in Friday and we'll start putting everything back to together.  I'm curious to see the EGTs of this engine as its always been a lot higher than our Trans-Am

Since I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a GT2871R I'll probably just run it around 8 psi or so and maybe just have a seperate chip burned to run 12 or so, as this engine hasn't even begun to see power if a stock 3.1 can run a 13.6 easily, the stuff in the engine I have should very easily be able to handle 12psi that one of those could put out.  I figure since I'm close enough to Kenny over there in Colorado, we just get the turbo on, drive it up there and have him tune me a chip on his dyno.  Gotta support the fellow TGPers and give them the business instead of someone else I figure if I'm going to be doing it the right way.
