Title: 3100 topend swap help?
Post by: killinprixs on May 31, 2007, 10:07:35 PM
I have a couple situations going on, was wondering if anyone wanted to help.  What kind of injectors should i use with this 01 3100 topend. it has roller rockers, bigger ports and bigger exhaust valves.    How should i get this thing tuned with the right injectors , about 13psi, and gt28rs on the way?  thanks

You can go two different ways. Chip tuning or have somebody tune one for you. The other way is to trick the map sensor and use a RRFPR. If you go FPR route you will need a HP fuel pump. Can't recommend one. Walbro (the favorite) isn't worth putting in your tank. :icon_sad: My second one in 3 years is bad already. Unfortunately Walbro supplies pumps to allot of vendors. I am presently trying to find one they didn't make.  If your just running normal pressure there probably ok.

Injector size around 30#, plugs AR472 work good. 13# of boost with that turbo, BE CAREFULL and sneak up on it. ;)

Have fun

ebay, I have bought about 8 sets and alll have worked perfect. You should test them for operating properly before you install them.

Lots of people don't list the P/N, you have to ask them and then compare to this site. Some injectors have two numbers like Bosch and Ford or GM. Get both numbers.

http://users.erols.com/srweiss/tableifc.htm#BOSCH

After you confirm by this site(I have only found one P/N that wasen't entirely correct but that was because ther were two GM numbers with the same Bosch number) google both numbers to prove they are what you want.

Heres a set that looks good

Heres a P/N for a good 28.5 injector 280155931 disc multech 2.

Its a long but good read lol... YES get your PMIII fixed and working perfectly before putting it back together... it is prolly much easier to work on teh brakes with everything out of the way.  Find what is wrong and fix it!  Good luck

Or you could go non-abs, like me... :leaving:
(It was cheaper that way :icon_redface:)

You can get a brand new PMIII from Prior Reman for $500 IIRC.... it was on TPS Garage- you're gonna have to find it on Kenny's site.

Don't think you want a new one. As I remember the were over 2k if you can still get a new one. Most guys go with a Prior rebuilt. http://www.priorreman.com/
They also have the accumlator and the rear pump housing (machined from a billet) for sale. The rebuilt unit is in the 700+ range and seems to keep going up.

Warrenty is excellent should you have trouble with one of there units. I'am on #3.

Any cam in any block. The roller into a non roller block takes a few little mods.

Best way.
Get the cover and pump and lines from the same car you got the heads from. Any of them with the 6 bolt UIM works fine. Will also allow you to use the 3500 UIM.

3.1 front cover. It's been done on the early model swaps, don't know about the later model swaps, that manifold is quit a bit longer.

Ok great thanks a lot Jud.   It turns out a buddy at work today had a whole  99 3400 i bought for $100 and stripped.  The heads have roller rockers just like the set i already have, i noticed that it also had Roller lifters. My question is, with the 3x00 heads w/roller rockers, on the TGP block w/stock cam, do i use normal lifters ?  What are these roller lifters about or is that a totally different cam?  thanks again, Ike

You have to use flat tappets with your flat tappet cam. Roller lifters with roller cam. These are two different systems with the roller setup being far superior. :icon_biggrin:

Pushrods :icon_question: The roller pushrods won't fit because the lifter is about 1/4 longer. You may be looking at special length. Try your old ones first. In theory they should work but never having done it myself I'm not going to give miss info.

You might try Ben on 60V6, I believe he is making them and most likely will know what you need for length.

Ok so i need the length of a stock 3.1 pushrod plus 1/4 inch?   It would obviously run like crap without that extra 1/4 ...correct?   Thanks a ton

No Ike, read it again. If you are using your 3.1 flat tappet cam and lifters try the 3.1 pushrods and check for length. If you are using the 3x00 roller cam and lifters use the 3x00 pushrods there a bolt in.

Jud

The roller lifter is 1/4 longer

Ok so im going to try 3.1 pushrods.

I dont understand why i can't use a 3.1 Timing chain cover.  Doesnt it change the serpentine system? why would i need a 3400 timing chain cover?   This is all i need to know for this motor then back in it goes.   Ike

Ike, the 3x00 manifolds are longer. Look at your fat PS pump and than look ant the 3x00. You might get it to work. Ask GPChief or TGPilot, I think they did a 3100 using the front cover, the pump I doubt it. I think they wish they hadn't. It's no fuss no muss to use the 3x00 stuff.
If you are using a 3400 or 3500 UIM forget it, get the cover and pump.

Hey ive got a couple questions before i have this thing done.    All im really waiting on is pushrods, injectors, chip and a charge pipe.  I noticed that the 3400 serpentine has 2 more pulleys and a fancy alternator mount.  Also noticed that 3.1,3100 and 3400 all have different serp. belt part #s.  I hope the AC bracket lines up with all this...     UM.....  Need to find a spot for IAT sensor.  Havnt touched the detent cable issue either.    then getting it tuned will be the last thing i do.... before i order that G6 6 speed trans.

Isnt the compression going to be dangerously high? with these 01 3100 heads?  i wanted to run around 13#  . Any help appreciated!

As I remember I used everything off the 3.1 except the WP and PS pump. Alt will bolt to the head just as it did on the 3.1 and so will the belt tensioner. The stock belt should work fine. The AC brkt bolts on just like the 3.1.

Don't forget to drill and tap the head for your temp gauge sender.

The compression will only go up .2 to about 8.9.

Don't know what an IAT is, do you mean MAT. It goes on the back of the manifold, take out the fitting thats in there and it will screw in.
