The car RUNS great, engine makes great power really does not burn or leak any large amounts of oil, in the near month of daily use I have one 3/4" dot of oil on the driveway, the valve covers weep a little bit and it you really get on it when cold it will puff a little. After getting the car I changed the oil to Valvoline 15w40 diesel oil and the oil pressure gauge ranges between just under "high" and about "mid level" when hot.

I bought the car because it was advertised as a "daily driver with bad brakes" It wasn't, I screwed up. It was a great running drivetrain in a chassis that had a bad ABS unit, bad brake pads and rotors, a loose steering column that is broken internally at the turn signal, very loose tie rod ends, very loose ball joints and crossmember bushings that were ripped out and near failing.

I paid $700.00 for the car, then repaired the brake pads & rotors, tie rod end and ball joints. I am waiting for the recall appointment at the beginning of next week. I bought a set of nice new take off (11/32nd tread and nibs still on the tread) tires and a CD player from Best Buy for $100.00.

Like I told the people that have emailed me I will sell the car MINUS tires and CD player for $900.00 firm. I will keep the tires and CD player for the car I am buying to replace this as a daily driver.

It will still need a column, ABS unit or conversion, stereo and tires (the 245/50r16s on it have about 4/32nds tread left on them but are edge worn)

It is a GREAT parts car, a GOOD beater car or an expensive restoration or driver.

Yes and no.

If it sells it sells if it doesn't it doesn't.

I should have put the car up on a hoist though. Oh well, we all have to drive a lemon once, right?

Added to the list of repairs is:

-Engine and transmission mounts
-Ball joints
-(It still needs a) Steering column
-Crossover pipe

I will likely part the car once the Beetle is going again, It will not sell for anywhere near the investment.

Does anyone have a Heater control switch module that has good buttons? I know they are getting rare as well.

Need a column OR rebuild kit and turn signal switch as well as a driver information display assembly for my 1990 TGP.

Any help or suggestions welcome as well.

Giving the benefit of the doubt, I don't think he realized I saw this ad, I had applied for account but had not been approved and just replied to him via the CL ad instead which DID NOT mention the chip.

But had anyone bought the car from him wednesday would have gotten it sans chip because I talked to him in the AM drove past it at his job at noon and bought it at 6:15PM. While the chip swap is not hard it is still a little tough to pull off on your lunch hour.

Like I said on his seller rating, I would commend him as a seller except for this one thing.

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is John, I am a VW service writer in Lansing, Mi. I have been in the automotive service industry since 1986 and have worked at every job in the field as you could imagine:
Tire tech, service tech, service writer, service manager, parts counter, parts manager, body shop estimator... Yup been there. I have a bad case of automotive ADHD, I like oddball and orphaned piles of junk. I am a reader and contributor to Grassroots Motorsports magazine and competed in the GRM $2002 and $2003 Challenges.

I purchased a well worn 1990 TGP from a local guy on this board, we will see how well it turns out. My plans are to get it back to proper running condition and then decide if I want to keep it as a driver or take the drivetrain out and build a Fiero with it.

Don't be scared... I never finish a project ;)

For Sale / Want to Buy / Re: HONEST SELLER/BUYER LIST

As for <seller> 90tgpforsale I would give him a 90 on a scale of 100. I would buy again as long as he clarifies what is included in the deal.

I got to purchase this beastly, pretty nice car really outside of the interior falling apart (which is GM build materials versus abuse) and the poor idle (which the missing 160 chip addressed) and the need of a crossover pipe.

I bought it for $700.00 so I am not pissed that Steve did noit leave the chip in but had I known it was not there I would have offerred $650.00.

Oh well.

This weekend will involve putting brakes on it all around and starting the daunting task of cleaning it.

It's a good thing the guy that bought the car didn't make his decision based on the for sale thread here AND the CL post.

He might have thought you had defrauded or at least misrepresented the sale...

It's okay I have it on good advice that he isn't too pissed about it.
