Ive released as of late, a lotta our cars have been donated to do engine swaps, crashed, crushed, etc etc.
Since there were under 8k total made between 89-90, id be willing to guess there is 5k left, if that.  Any other guesses or am I totally off?

I've seen 9 TGPs (3 red, 6 black), and 2 TSTEs (both white) since I've learned what a TGP/TSTE is about 3 years ago.  Of those, 2 red ones & 2 black ones where in junkyards.  Those 9 include the 2 TGPs I own(both black).  One of mine is getting crushed soon as I gave up on it as it has/had way too many problems.  So, including mine, that's about 55% of the TGPs I've seen where in yards.  That doesn't include the TSTEs though as both I've seen worked.  Well, one was driving and one was parked in a driveway.  They may have been the same one, but I'm not sure. If I figure in the TSTEs it's about 45% crushed/junked. I figure about half of all TGPs/TSTEs are left, which I would guess is about 4,000.    :(

In person, I've seen: TSTEs - 3 in the junkyards, one on the road, and the one I own.  TGPs - 5 in the junkyards, one I parted out and sent to a junkyard   , the one I own, and atleast a good 10 on the roads since I've been aware of their existance.  For a while there, it seemed to be raining Turbos in the yards around here.  Probably still are, but I haven't been to one in quite some time.  Half of them being deceased sounds about right to me.

LOL.  Back when I was having trouble finding an AWD STE, I was seriously contemplating calling my insurance company (Geico) to see if they would tell me how many they insured.  I was hoping to get in contact with some near-by owners to see if they'd sell.

I own one. And there is another one in my area that is in really good condition.

The cool thing about the STE turbo, my insurance knows it's an STE.  But it doesn't know it's a turbo.   8)

Isn't that shooting yourself in the foot the no1? I doubt it would be like you owned a turbo supra if they knew it was turbo'd, but it would certainly add to the value, especially if it gets damaged.

It's just that there isn't a ste turbo model listed for the 90 grand prix according to the insurance.  Even when I give them the vin.

Same with mine.  In fact, they said it wasn't showing up as a complete GP number, whatever that means.  They sent me a letter asking me to make sure the VIN # was correct.

ASC/McLaren VIN #'s are not on the insurance companies info bank and our VINs will not come up as a real number.  Mine is listed with them as a regular Pontiac grand Prix with a turbo option.

I use Farm Bureau insurance, I gave him my Vin # and it showed up as a 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix McLaren

why are you crushing a TGP?  What probelms does it have?  You willing to have someone come pick it up as a project car rather than junking it and adding to the total number lost.  A junkyard will give ya 50 bucks for it if your lucky I'll give ya that for it.

It's too late...the engine is already out of the car.  I bought the car for $990 a couple years ago as a project car.  The previous owner put in a regular 4T60 that blew up within a couple thousand miles of me getting it running.  I then drove to MA from PA to get a real TGP 4T60, which is 4 hrs one way.  Anyways, here's a list of all of the problems with the car.

Dent in driver's side front fender(about 10" long and 1" deep), missing passenger side hood louver, broken driver's side hood louver, what looks like to be hail damage to the hood, the hood and rear passenger fender are also regular black and not metallic black(very noticable in the sun), the paint on the whole car is very faded(the roof and the bumpers especially), the rear bumper cover has a square hole in it for a small hitch(the hitch was still on it when I bought it  ), the front air damn is completely broken apart, the driver's side GFX rubs the door when you open it( the paint is worn off of the door), the passenger side GFX has a hole in it(about a 1" X 2"), the trunk has a dent in that goes out(looks like someone tried to close the trunk on something too big   ), the paint if chipping off of the trunk(about a 6" X 6" section last time I looked at it.  Overall, there is not a single part of the body of the car that is straight, and that's not an exageration.  Now, on to the inside of the car...the carpet throughout the whole car is beat, the driver's seat is ripped of course, the steering wheel is also torn on the top, the driver's window doesn't go up when you put it down, the HUD doesn't work, the tape deck doesn't work, the glovebox combo lock is smashed(looks like someone got mad), the passenger door speaker cover is also smashed, the ski door is missing from the back, the backet that the dash pad snaps into are borken on the passenger side(the dash pad squeaks like crazy from this), and that's all I can think of at the moment.  Also, this is how I bought the car.  I've decided that this car is going to be my parts car for my other one...well for parts that are usuable.  I bought it with good intentions, but the car is too far gone for me.  It would probably take a lot of money to get it to look good as the whole body is terrible.  It's the worst looking TGP that I've ever seen that wasn't in an bad accident. Oddly enough though, the car always ran good for me after I changed the x-over and hollowed the cat(it was broken up and a piece actually clogged the exit pipe).  Anyways,  like I was saying...it's too late as the engine is already out and I have no intention to put it back in.   :(
