Muncie vs Getrag

Im planning a 5 speed swap in teh TGP in may.  Now I Have my choice of muncie transmissions but everyones doing the getrag 282.... Can someone please explain the difference?!

They are most likely talking about the 282.  They could be taking about the 284 as both were made in Muncie at New Venture Gear (Now Manual Transmissions of Muncie, pwn3d by Borg Warner/Warner Gear/Warner Automotive)  The 282 is what you want to stick w/ if you don't know the differences between the 284 and the 282 then say so and we'll let you know what they are.  (The most important one is $$$$$$$$$)  And I can personally vouch that he 282 will hold up under a level of performance.  (Man I need to find a dyno)

They could be referring to the little Isuzu 5 speed too.. Just a thought.

Yeah, you gotta watch out for that fucker, I was told by like 8 different people that the 5 speed from a 4 cylinder cavi would fit, but I didn't care.  I did my own research and found out that it won't fit.  It also has about 1\2 the ass that the 282 has.

is there an easy way to tell a Getrag (Muncie) 282 apart from the weaker Isuzu 282?  i don't think i've ever seen an Izuzu 282 up close.

Well, the bolt pattern is different, so if you're familiar w/ that  it'll be good enough.  Cept for that I never really paid much attention to it.

ah ok - most of 'em (if not all) are probably on LO Quad-4s or 2.0Ls :)  i wonder if anyone has used a Getrag 282 from a HO Quad 4, or even a Getrag 282 from a W-41 HO Quad-4 on a TGP engine? (after swapping on a V6 bellhousing of course)  i've heard the gearing is better than the V6 version of the 282, maybe not as steep i forget.  i've heard people mention doing doing it but as far as i know noone has actually done it.
