hey guys, could someone tell me which coilovers work the best/are worth the money...ive looked at the www.fastfwdperformance.com but i want fronts too, so i looked at www.heldmotorsports.com, they said they have some in testing or something... (do they have fronts that work for us but not backs? or vice versa)but didn't know if people had made other models fit thier tgp, will they. if they have fronts but not backs could you use held's front coil and ffp back with out issues?

i know this is a repeat of other coilover stuff but could some one just give me clear "this is the best coilover for our car right now" kinda stuff

also are there any other companys that are making coilovers that i haven't listed
thanks mike from minn

I just put the FFP coilovers on and the ride is really good.  Before the switch I had completely blown struts and a cracked leafspring.. not a good combo for safety or ride quality so this is a HUGE improvement.  I do know that FFP is also working on a set of front coilovers for our cars... along with strut tower braces and some other goodies that from what I understand should be available this summer sometime ("hopefully").

From what I remember, the HELD Coilovers do work for the fronts but i don't think they have one for the back... so if you want it all right now, i'd say the FFP rear and HELD front... or wait and get all FFP as soon as they are done.

ok, sounds good, how are the coilovers (ffp) from a performance standpoint. more agressive ride (stiffer) or is it just meant for a nice smooth adjustable ride.

aslo did you put lowering springs in the front or are you waiting to put front coilver

i'm waiting on front coilovers, as for the ride from the performance stance, i can't really say i'm affraid. I haven't driven a TGP w/ fully functioning rear suspension.  I'd say it is probably about the same as stock or perhaps a little stiffer.

futuretgp'er

what about ordering stiffer springs with your coilover package??? that would give you a siffer ride but would it over work the kyb gr2 struts??

btw how much did you lower you car now that you can adjust (given front isn't lowered)??
did you have any problems with install, alignment, tire rub?

Some of the feedback so far is with the prone rubbing of newer tires on the front getting worse when dropped in the front, I have yet to hear a good write up to quote, and if the 3/4 inch drop MOD ONLY gets close enough to the fronts to match things up.  Problem too is some TGPs are already pretty low (then there are some like one of mine that look off-road  ) so maybe with the rear 3/4 inch drop mod the drop fronts will match the rear, time will tell, if someone tells us :D   As for coil overs in the rear, I do agree with Shawn Lin and others, the area back there at the top of the strut where the coil overs will be stressing carrying the weight are not designed to handle all that loading, and the first one to do the rear coil over after a few years said things did crack back there from the rear coil overs, so like anything, time to make it better and see if a reinforcement plate can be made up to better address this loading area!

jeff, so your saying just getting a rear strut tower brace is not going be enough to prevent the damage...or will that help

what kind of suspension work do you use on your cars?

I did not say anything about some strut tower brace, but it may help, once again, the cracks found by the one guy who admitted it, needs to say where it cracked for to know if this would help.  As for what I have done, this kind of stuff is pure fun and I have yet had time for fun  There are some performance items I have testing, but that is it!

Ha!  I thought I was the only one :-)  Mine is high enough you could probably run over somebody laying down and not even touch them.  I guess I just always thought that's how the cars are, is there a way to lower it?  I definitely don't want to cause the front tires to start rubbing, I don't know how McLaren fit those huge meats in there in the first place, it does seem like they may rub sometimes when I turn, can't be sure if the noise is rubber or something else.

I had asked about a having a plate made for this exact purpose.  it would attach at the top of the struts on the back, then follow the body line and attach at the center where the mono-leaf attaches.  transfering some weight to the center of the car.  I have talked to Michael and he said that he has had the coilovers on his car for over 2 years w/ no problems.

same here.  i've had them on for about 2.5 years/60,000 miles and i have yet to see any sign of damage.  i also have NO rear sway bar and NO rear strut tower brace, and i deliver pizza like mad in my car, hitting lots of speed bumps etc. but also lots of interstate trips and some of those trips with a 5-speed transmission sitting in the trunk along with a ton of tools.  i've checked many times for signs of damage/cracks/warping etc. but it's always looked fine.

I'd probably go with FFP for the rears and Helds for fronts.
