Does anyone have any recomendations or know what kind of tranny fluid goes into an 89 getrag 282 manual?  Also, are the drive axles the same or do I need to get those 2?
Obsessed is the lazy mans word for dedication.

I agree with Davis. Synchromesh from GM only.

Syncromesh only - unfortunately it's about $10/quart and available only from GM but you only need 2.1 quarts.

you will need both drive axles; they are not the same length as the automatic axles.

IIRC the drivers side shaft is the same for Auto and Manual tranny. The passengers side is the difference. It has been a long time since I did the swap and can't remember if the auto pass side is shorter or longer... 8)

Syncromesh is the only fluid you should put in the 282. When I was first looking at what fluid should be in there I read that Auto-Tranny fluid was used in some of them. I put that in first and the car shifted like total shit! Scratched all the time...well for the 1 mile I drove it on it's maiden voyage. Switched over to syncromesh and it was smooth as glass... 8)
