Would my STE be worth more to a TGP collector w/5 speed???

I am pretty sure I want to do a 5 speed swap in my STE.  Not for performance, but just to make the car more fun to drive.  I was just wondering if you guys think it would make a difference in what the car is worth, either more or less.  I'm probably gonna do the swap no matter what, just wondering if the value would change.

Any ideas?

IMO it would be worth less, Not stock, and not worth a damn for a true 1/4 mile car... :hockey:  :drinking:

they are hardly a collector car anyway.  put a 5-speed in it and have fun with it....way more fun.

5-speed car's aren't worth a damn for a 1/4 mile car?  sure maybe if you don't know what you're doing.

1/4 mile is consistancy, tire spin equals No speed gain, also NO pro stock racers run a clutch.
A Maroon STE is extreamly rare...
Oh, I forgot you don't own a TGP so you you are an expert....

I know that it will make the car much less consistant at the track (don't plan on going to the track much anyways), and probably not much, if any quicker.  I just think it would be more fun to drive the car with a 5 speed.  I find myself manually shifting my car so much with the auto that it may as well be a 5 speed.

I'm just kinda worried that if I put a 5 speed in the car its not gonna be worth much if I decide to sell it for some reason.

As for it not being much of a collector car...A Maroon STE is about the rarest TGP you can get, and TGP's in themselves are pretty rare, so it is a pretty rare car.  I've heard a number of something like 350 or so were made.  I just can't decide if I want to tear it apart for a 5 speed or not.  It will be a lot of fun when it is all said and done...but will it be worth it.  And, I plan on keeping this car for a while (I'm hoping 10+ years), so it would make the duration of my ownership much more fun...just can't really decide if its worth it.

sorry i should have worded that better.  i know the Maroon TSTE is a VERY rare car, but i was mostly thinking about the fact that there are between 7000-8000 TGPs made altogether, which isn't that rare...relatively speaking of course.  there are alot of people that score decent TGPs for well under $1000, so the value is still pretty low and probably will be for awhile yet.  for this reason i would think that a TGP with a 5-speed would be worth more.

the 5-speed swap is almost 100% bolt-in anyway....besides drilling a small hole in the floorpan for the shifter cables which no one would ever see anyway.  i'd be willing to bet that if you drove a nice 5-speed TGP you would probably consider it a worthwhile mod.  even with my NA 3.1, the 5-speed swap made my car sooooo much more fun to drive!  i guess i'm partial to the 5-speed swap for this reason.  good luck

I wouldn't worry about the collector value if you want a 5 speed.  Unfortunately these cars aren't seen as that yet, maybe someday who knows.  I say if you want to do it go for it, you can always convert it back.

Well, that is true, I could always just put the automatic back in it later.  I know its not much of a valuable collector car yet, but like I said I plan on having the car for like 10 years or more, so maybe then it will be a valuable collector car.  I know it will make it more fun to drive...I just have to figure out what it will cost and everything then probably do the swap.

I know someone with a '90 Maroon STE 3.1/5 Speed (stock, supposedly a pretty rare car) that is thinking about parting the car out or maybe selling it pretty cheap in the near future...if so I would have a complete donor car to swap into it (in which I could swap my auto into and drive), not to mention it has HUD that I could use in my TSTE...then I'd just be missing the leather. (and the CD player until I get around to installing it)  I am gonna talk to him again and see if he is willing to sell it to me reasonably cheap.

I was within .3 seconds of each run once I realized how to launch at Bandimere. I thought Pro-Stock cars had a manual sequencial (sp?) gear-box that needed a clutch off the line...but then slammed into the next higher gear as they progress down the track? 8)

3 tenths is A LOT in bracket racing.  When I was running the 2 door TGP at the track last year it was running very consistant.  All the times were between 14.81 & 14.84....do that with a manual.
