Well I finally started it up today after nearly 2 month wait..  sounds really good!  I used the Crane 2020 cam instead of stock, no running issues  with it yet, seems a little lopey during idle, but it sounds really really good and the break in went smooth!!  Changed the oil already, I insured it today so hopefully tomorrow I can take it out for a nice and easy cruise to enjoy my labor!  I will post some pics and hopefully a movie when I tie up a few loose ends..

I just want to say thanks to everyone on this board that gave me input and advice in diagnosing and repairing this thing (Jud, Jeff M, Kenny, maybe even Jay  )!  This was the first time I removed a set of heads from any engine, let alone rebuild the entire thing, and I am extrememely  thankful for all the help and guidance!  Pics and hopefully some clips soon!  Thank you again!

Good to hear that Ryan, I'm waiting on the pics now. :D  Isn't the low mileage car the one you did the rebuild on?

Yeah, this car has 38,325K on the clock, the motor is all new except for the pistons and the connecting rods.  Everything else was replaced.  It looks really nice, however I have an exhaust leak at the manifold that I need to take care of before I take any clips, but I will hopefully post some pics on Thursday, seeing as I have class ALL DAY tomorrow.

It's a great car and I took it up the road for a little spin just to see how it runs, and I couldn't be more pleased with it right now.  Hopefully everything stays ok internally.. only time will tell.  As long as that cam holds up I don't think I have anything to worry about.  Now I have to wait 2k miles to get on it, but I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

I've read that the chip needs to be redone if you're going to run a different cam.  Has yours/Ryan's been programmed for this?

I do my own chips. It was at first. Right now I have it running the stock chip due to the trans issues, and it runs alright. It will die every once in a while at a light(about twice a week). Nothin major though. It does however run a LOT better with the right tuning, just like anything else. Honetsly, if you are looking to replace a bad cam and want something a little more than stock, but want to retain the stock calibration, the Crane 2020 is about the best I can think of.

So far I have had zero driveability issues with this cam, in fact, despite the exhaust leak it runs and sounds perfect.  I don't think I can even tell a difference in idle, or when slowing down with this cam.  It does seem a bit more powerful when I rev it, but I have to wait a while to get on it.. don't want to screw anything up in there.

Fingers crossed I did everything right and hopefully I won't ever see that cam again!

Umm, I'm interested in this about having to modify the chip for a different cam?  I'm about to put in an engine with a lot different cam than stock, and when I read this it caught my eye....It is a lot bigger custom grind cam if it matters any?

Glad to see you got it running. Looking good.
