does anyone here use an EGT gauge?  if so where did you mount the sensor?  should it be on the crossover pipe or could i drill & tap one of the exhaust manifolds?  i plan on deleting EGR - could i install the EGT probe on the crossover pipe in the EGR bung location?  could it be installed on the turbo where the O2 sensor is? (and move the O2 sensor to the downpipe).

any feedback, ideas suggestions appreciated, thanks

Well, here goes.  If it were me, I would either want to know what each bank is doing (2 batches) or I would want to know what the tune is doing as a whole.  If you want to know what each bank is doing, then the EGR bung would be a good spot for one, and opposite side for the other.  If you want to know what the car is doing as a whole, I would get as close to the collector on the x-over as I could.  Maybe even somewhere on the DP.  Then again, I don't know alot about Exhaust gas temps, enough to really answer this question, just seems right in my head if you know what I'm saying.

dsmtalk.com would be the best place to search.

but how would they know where to put an EGT probe on a TGP?

Quote from Autometer Gauges "tech tips"

"Now, there is much discussion about the actual placement of the probe, and if you have read our instructions, you will find that we recommend the probe be placed into the down pipe. This is the easiest place to mount the probe and the least likely to allow the entrance of shavings from drilling and tapping into the turbo (also referred to Turbo Outlet Temp). However, you have to keep in mind that on the AVERAGE, the temps will be between 300 and 400 degrees cooler than what is actually being inputted to the turbo itself.

That is why many people choose the more extensive, more involved installation method of placing the probe into the exhaust manifold. This method will offer you a more ?realistic? idea of the true turbo temp, and a more ?real time? reading of the temps too (also referred to as Turbo Inlet Temperature). Now, as previously stated, this is a much more involved install, as it is strongly recommended the exhaust manifold be removed to be drilled and tapped, as to not introduce any shavings or metal filings into the turbo"

They might own DSM's, but the concept is still the same.

yeah, i've read about them on turbododge.com forum, but i'm mostly interested in where i should place the probe on the TGP engine.  i wanted to see if anyone here had an EGT probe mounted in the crossover or the exhaust manifolds etc.

thanks for the replies!

well i'm definately going to mount the probe before the turbo.  i'm seriously considering putting it where the O2 sensor is, and then just moving the O2 sensor to the downpipe just after the turbine.  either that or i'll mount two EGT probes - 1 on the end of each exhaust manifold (or 1 on each end of the crossover pipe).

i was going to go with an A/F guage (still might), but they are only accurate @ WOT.

anyone know if there are EGT gauges available that can switch between two different EGT probes or better yet read/display them simultaneously?
