So, I'm coming back home from a friend's house down Rt. 59.  It's 1 A.M.  Earlier in the evenings, 59 is like a race track, with everyone and their mother thinking they must own a race car.  The speed limit is 45, but I have a hard time keeping up with traffic at 60, at times.  But at this time of night, it was pretty empty.

So....I'm chugging along, minding my own business.  I occassionlly stab at the accelerator, as I was enjoying the new found rush the motor was feeling from the 32* air.  So these two black guys in a '95 or '96 Lexus ES300 kept stepping on it, going around cars constantly, and just driving like all around jerks.  I let them go for a while.  I know that road is full of cops on account of my first paragraph.  Well, we get closer to the Fox Valley mall, and these guys are really starting to get on my nerves.  I passed them up (not on purpose; I just held my speed while they were real spurratice with their accelerating/decelerating), so they sped up really gradually to pass me up.

Finally, we come to a red light.  I don't even look over at them.  Light turns green, and I do my normal take-off from the line (nothing drastic, but a tad bit faster then most people do), they start stepping on it hard, so I pushed the pedal 3/4 of the way down, and zoom passed them with little effort.  I let off quickly afterwards because we came upon another light.  I was sure they'd take off hard this time since I gave them a run at the last light.  So, light turns green, and I hear their tires chirp.  I put the pedal to the ground, and my car does the usual "absolutely nothing immediately off the line" thing.  Not to worry, I kept up with them to 10 mph, where my tires broke loose to high hell (it's been doing that late tire screech ever since the line from the selenoid popped off at the turbo, as opposed to not chirp the tires at all before that), and the car just launched like I've never felt before.  As it's been doing recently, the car chirps into second, and by the time I'm at 65, I look in my rear view to find they're 3-4 car lenghts back.  This scenerio happens again at 2 more lights.  I love the "maybe I'll grow HP in between lights" mentality.  4th light, I let them go.  I figured if they're not going to learn by now, it's a lost cause.  Well....I almost let them go....As we approached the 5th light, it had just turned green (before we came to a stop), and I knew my lane would be ending in a few hundred feet, so as soon as it went green, we both punched it, and I breezed ahead of them again, got in their lane, and that's all she wrote.  They stayed way back after that, and I made a right at the next intersection, to my way home.  It was my first, straight up race yet (well, other then that Neon R/T I slaughtered.  Not sure what he was thinking, but it wasn't worth a thread).  There's been a lot of those little stab at each other type deals, but too much traffic to start getting nutty.  Many times, I've wanted to catch up to certain cars that needed to be put in their place, but the majority of those people were cutting people off and nearly causing accidents.  Not interested in partaking in any of that sort of "boy-racer" stupidity.  Whenever those happen, I simply say "it's yours".  So anyway, this was kind an exciting taste of this car's potential.  Very soon, a whole bunch of the problems plaguing this car are going to be remedied.  I can't wait to have this thing accelerating consistently for a change, though it did VERY well tonight.
