I got a copy of the April 1989 Road&Track magazine article on the TGP. It says that the TGP block got an extra 0.010" higher deck height then the standard V6 to ensure compression does not excede tolerances.

And if you think your brakes suck now, they stopped the car back in 1989 from 60-0 in 152ft.

Most people took that to mean .100. I don't even think the ..010 is true after measuring  a N/A and my block and then doing the math. I had about .015 deck hight above the piston using the math and actual measurement. I posted this and now everyone knows it was not .100.  that 's a ton. Even the old grue's were in dismay. They obvisouly never measued the deck high or the blocks. Some hottrodders. Don't know where the post is but I suppose I could find it. It's on W-body. Yea I know thats a bad word. there is a bunch of other stuff that these grue,s dont know, yet the info keeps popping up. CC's, crank, block and heads to mention a few. Some of it total  BS because they have never done the investigaton, meanusrments or testing. Just took someybodys word for the info.

Post the article you found I am sure we would all like to read it. I  have old hot rods but no R/T. Humm maybe I should look at some of thoes old H/R's and see if our cars are in there although I think there all pre-1990. Gotta have near 200. It's getting where I can't cary the boxes.

Just checked latest H/R is like 72 oldest is 62. Found a couple of Ccraft and Cdriver dated 72. Don't know why I keep this old stuff.

Good find.

Kinda sucks.

An '04 Grand Caravan will do it in 136 feet.

It's decent, I guess, but far from great.

That deck height rumor has been around for a while, wasn't it you Jud that cc'd the cylinder heads and found out there was a slight difference in combustion chamber volume NA vs. boosted?(hence the very slight difference in advertised compression rato)  I think I have a picture Chris A. took comparing a TGP vs. NA crank and there are some differences.  I've been meaning to email Chris A. and confirm that it's his picture and that it actually is a TGP vs. NA comparison being that I couldn't find the original post where I saved the picture from.

Boy Matt your up late. :)

Here's the link to a crank picture and some info. The other pictures don't work. Starphoto sucks, sometimes I can get on after 3 or 4 minuts other times I can't. Anyone can try if they want.

By the way I am running a N/A crank the one with the little gap between the reluctor ring notches. No problems yet.  :D I never could find any differenc in the cranks other than the reluctor ring. It's maybe a degree different.

If anybody want's a specfic picture let me know.

I'm always up too late lately

Jud, what year NA crank did you compare/are you using? I *think*(not exactly sure) that I've read here before that the NA vs. TGP cranks for the same years were different and that all the later 60* 6's got the 981 casting(is the TGP crank the "981" casting also?).  I'll try to dig up that post here or over at the W-body board. BTW, did you forget the link?

Here's the crankshaft picture I have.

EDIT:  So it was your pic that I had saved^..found your starblvd page 8)

Yea I forgot the link.  I'am just an idiot

The crank was ordered as a 90 Pontiac and is a 981 casting. This crank was a piece of work. Perfect in every dimension. I had a local shop ground my TGP crank and they made a mess out of it. I didn't think it would last and it didn't.

So the starblvd page opened for you? I run out of patients waiting for it to open.

Got the link this time.
