Anyone wanting to consider one of the many Acceleration Meters/Accelerometers out there might want to snatch up the May 2005 Car and Driver!!  There is a very in depth (pages, with graphs!!) article that covers all the meters out there from Escort, Tazzo VPC, Pocket Dyno, Nology PDA-Dyno, Race Tech AX22, G-Tech Pro and the old standard (that did pretty good) Vericom!

To cut to the chase, and to use the most known/used unit out there that first started the affordable range of accelerometers, the G-Tech Pro, times in the quarter mile with a front wheel drive G6 (The all new G6 :ghey: , so what: The all new scented diapers, big deal  :spin:  )  was off by all of .05 seconds, that means a track time of 14.1 would be read by the G-Tech Pro as 14.05, damn close!!!  Quarter mile speed with the G6 was off by 1 mph meaning a 88 mph run would be read as 89 mph, again damn close, and don?t know many non-pros that run that close with their own times drag after drag  myself included 8) .

Now those waiting for the drag strips to open and see what their cars will do can find some abandoned road and have at it, zero to sixty times too!! 8)   So snatch up some good reading, finally we get some meaningful and well done tests, all the damn mags out there these days only have pretty pictures, worthless  !!

The G-Tech Pro Comp was the top dog from 2001 till 2004, now the name "G-Tech Pro" is synonymous with both newer 2004-on units, the only difference being the RR and SS versions.  The one they tested is the RR for $299, the SS is $199, there web site tells all the differences, you do get a lot more detailed info with the RR, but both use the same guts for testing the same: accel times, so both should be as accurate.
