Has anyone tried to retrofit a roller cam in a TGP motor.I know the stock TGP lifters are the same as a early small chevy.They make aftermarket roller lifters for the small chevy and they fit in a 3.1 motor(have some laying arround and test fitted) mix with custom pushrods and there you go.I was wondering if anybody has tried this(pros an cons).Is it worth the time an money?Thanks.

I was wondering what you used to keep the cam from walking forward.(flat tappet cam lobes are ground offset to push the cam towards the back of the block)On early chevy we use a cam button,late chevy has a retainer plate to hold it in place.What about a 90 model 3.1?Thanks!

No retainer plate, use a cam button. I know it's a SBC but don't remember the lenght it takes some turning a messing with to get it in the cam and proturding the right distance. I think it was .795 long roller bearing type. Late 60 V6 have that retainer. The late model cams are hollow and the lobes are pressed on the tube. That blew me away. :o

Yea the lobes of a flat tappet cam are off center from the lifter. The force to keep the cam toward the back is the taper on the lobe. One side is higher than the other, this also makes the lifter rotate along with the offset.

Kenny all the parts are 3400 stock. The only difficult part is fabing the hold down brackets for the lifter guide plates. Here's a couple of pictures when I was developing it. It takes 3 hold downs 6 springs  and 3 bent pieces of coat hanger. The spring in the picture was discarded in favor of two short ones and the coat hanger to go under.

Guide plates just need a little notching and grinding so they sit flat.
