A year and a half or so ago, when I was doing my 3100 topend swap and a few other things to my STE, I started looking for good turbo cams for our cars.  It seemed that nobody really made a very good one that was mass produced (no calling up the cam company and custom ordering one).  I probably could've called up a cam company and had a very good cam made for me, but at the time I just didn't want to mess with it, I would've rather just gone into a store and walked out with a cam.  So I ended up going with a cam that wasn't really a turbo cam, but states in its description from crane that it is a mild turbo cam.  It seems to work well, and the car idles pretty well, and the computer hasn't seemed to really have too many problems with the cam yet.

However, I started looking some more lately and decided I want to upgrade to something that is actually a dedicated turbo cam.  Lately I actually found 2 turbo cams made my Engle that look to be pretty good, and I might end up going with one of them.  I don't know if anyone here has seen these cams before, but I imagine they have.  I wish I would've seen these before I chose my cam, but oh well.  Here is a link to their catalog, then you just choose Chevy V6 and the cams are listed there.

These cams sell for $140 each, and IMO either one is just as good, if not better than any other mass produced 60* turbo cam I've seen.  Since I had not seen these cams until recently (well, like a year ago now) I figured maybe there were others that have missed them, I figured I would let people know these are available.  I plan on picking up 2 or 3.  I already have one of their EP-16/18HYD cams but I think I will probably end up going with the smaller of the two turbo cams instead.  Maybe I'll get a smaller one for my dads TGP and the larger one for the STE, I'm not sure.

On a Gen II topend car these should provide noticable gains in the 20-30hp range, however fuel injectors will become an issue and you will probalby want to upgrade.  With a 3100 topend the gains will be similar, but the gains will be on top of the gains the 3100 topend gave.  Ported heads obviously increase these gains.

I will also be doing before and after results with these cams.  I won't do 1/4 mile runs in my dads TGP 'cause hes worried about the tranny, but I will do dyno pulls.  In the STE I'll post both before & after dynos and 1/4 mile times, of course this will be compared to the Crane 260/GMPP cam.  This way you'll be able to see the actual gains these cams give.

Anyways, figured I'd let you know about these cams, even though you probably already do know, because to me they look like a very good choice.  And also figured I'd let you know about this little cam experiment project I'm doing.

Well, after getting my magnifying glass out to see the thing :P

My prediction is the Crane cam to be a better cam all around.  If Engle had cam timing it would help, but oh well, Dyno 2003 shows the Crane Cam and Engle being pretty close thru low/mid range, but after about 4000, the Crane pulling better on top end.  This is on a STOCK N/A 3.1 though.  If I had Turbo numbers for the T-25, it would help for a Turbo engine, but I was never comfortable with the numbers I tried.  I thought I had the numbers correct but stock power numbers were way off of what the Dyno 2003 said.

Anyways, can't wait to see the actual results :)

Edit, I also took these same cam numbers for you and thru in a mild 3100 head air flow map and the numbers were pretty much the same just having better top end of course.  I did try the turbo specs I did have and it really messed things up, it showed way high power in the 7500/8000 RPM ranges so can't really say what the turbo will do to the numbers

Theoretically, since it has more duration, the powerband should be higher than the crane cam, and with the lsa it should be better for a turbo car.  With an N/A car I can understand the crane being better, but I think on a turbo car the Engle cam would be noticably better.  I know when I compared the engle cam I have sitting at home to the Crane cam they were virtually identical results on DD2k, but they are pretty similar cams so it made sense.  Either way, just looking at raw numbers and not running any dd simulations, the engle cam looks like a better choice to me.  We'll see what I come up with in the end.  Should be a fun project.

So your not happy with the H260 cam?  IIRC someone had once said the cam from the 3100 worked well.

I'm very happy with it, I'd just like to move on to bigger and better things.  I believe there are cams that would work better with my setup available.  I would recommend the H260 to anyone looking into getting it.

that wants to do extensive chip modification.I mean, I would try one if it was tuned in to a chip I could buy.

I noticed a very large gain and I run a completely unmodified topgun chip...(and I did way more than the cam)  Its a mild enough cam that it should cause no problems with your current chip.  Chip modification would improve the gains definately, but isn't needed to see a power gain...

One thing I would recommend while changing the cam is a fuel injector upgrade...definately needed!

what is the big deal about calling up the cam shop and telling them what you have and what specs you want for your car and let them grind a "one-off" for ya

it worked for me and i could tell a noticeable difference all over the power band with my custom comp cam
i don't know if i can find the specs for it but search for posts by me and I'm sure you can find it

Im starting to like the Crane 272. I'd go with a big bumpstick with making sure I don't bottom out the retainers to the guides or coil bind. I sure as heck don't need more torque unless its slicks or RWD.
