Im just day dreaming about new exhaust since mines rusty, and the cats now clogged (ima see if i can get my local muffler shop to cut it off and throw a straight pipe on for me)

2.5 Exhaust mandrel bent sounds good right ? Resonator, any specific brands? Mufflers also, I herd about these Flo Pro Twisters, i herd they have a nice deep sound, yet there quiet? I dont want a super loud car, i want a nice deep good sound, but not loud. Any other ideas on mufflers also would be great thanks

My ideal exhaust is a full stainless mandrel bent 2.5" w/ high flow cat, electronic cutout and dual flowmaster 40s. I haven't heard too many exhaust clips with any different mufflers so I could be swayed away from the flowmasters, but electronic cutout is a must. hearing these things roar to life out of no where would be quite the surprise to the unsuspecting ricer.

(less cat, but our state reqs. it. I'll try to flange it some how so I can unbolt it on a whim)

ideal exhaust for me would be include the ATP VES cutout (controlled by a manual boost controller), mandrel bent 2.5" pipe and Dynomax Ultraflo mufflers and no cat at all.  Flowmasters are probably the last thing i would use.....aren't they a chambered muffler?

Yep. They probably won't hurt performance on our cars, but they're definitely not ideal.

My setup consists of a high flow cat, 2.5'' mandrel bent piping and one resonator. It has a deep/noticeable idle and a low burble at light throttle. The exhaust is really quiet at WOT(barely audible, all you really hear at WOT is a little engine sound and the turbocharger).  I can dig up a clip of my car taking off just easing on the throttle if you've never seen it before Erik. I'm going to record some more exhaust vids of the car soon, I may alter my setup a bit before then though(planning on ditching my high-flow cat and running another resonator or some style of straight-through muffler. I'm only getting rid of the cat because I think it might be a restriction "up top.")

I think you would be suprised at how quiet these cars really are with not mufflers at all.  When I had the Lumina it had no cat and no mufflers and it really wasn't that loud.  When you go WOT it would get quieter.  It sounds good IMO, but it wouldn't "roar to life" when you open the cutout.  Although it probably is a little louder than what is legal.

I have different views. The TGP had no mufflers, just pipe after the cat, and that thing was pretty loud. The Cutlass was even louder, but that was because by the time I replaced the exhaust, I'd lost the piping all the back to the front of the back tire  And it's DEFINETLY louder than what's legal...

I do notice even stock these cars are very quiet at WOT, so 2.5 is ideal, what kinda power increases do you see? And The Electronic cutout, whats that?

And Mfewtrail what mufflers do you use?

And people say stay away from flowmasters then? They sound bad or what

If you still had a cat on it then it was still pretty quiet.  I took my mufflers off my Lumina before I took the cat off, and it got WAY louder when I took the cat out.  With the cat still on it was definately still quiet enough to be legal.  I got pulled over in the Lumina (not for loud exhaust) when it had no cat or mufflers and the officer mentioned my exhaust seemed a little loud and that I might want to do something about it, but he said it wasn't loud enough to give me a ticket for it.  The only time it was really loud is if I didn't get on it very hard at all and it would pop and stuff due to not having enough backpressure.

I have no cat and magnaflows on my STE and it sounds pretty good.  Its a little quieter than I would like it to be but it sounds a lot better than stock.  I'm not going to pull the mufflers off because I have a good bit of $ invested in my exhaust, but I probably would take the mufflers off if I hadn't already put the magnaflows on it.

I stated what I have above = cat + resonator. I do not run any "mufflers." The catalytic converter and resonator quieten down the exhaust enough...as well as the turbo.

yeah i have an electonic cut-out and its night and day diff between open and stock and exhuast.....its way way louder...but the point about quieting when going WOT is true!!

Just curious about the exhaust on the 1st gen w-bodys. Would the exhaust off a 2nd gen work on ours not as a direct bolt on but routing wise. because my ideal exhaust would be one of these (preferably the first one) with the same high flow cat I have on it right now.
