My turbo seals are leaking severely.  The drain tube is new.  I won't have the money to repair the turbo for a couple of months.  Is there a way to disable or eliminate the turbo for a short period of time so I can still drive the car?  It's my only transportation.

Not really man. Not unless you build a custom exhaust bridge from where the turbo bolts to the downpipe and cross-over flange. Then you would have to make couplings to reroute the oil and coolant lines instead of them going through the turbo.

A turbo or blower for than matter are not something that can just be disabled and away you go. You pretty much have to remove them to disable them.

If you just didn't want boost produced by the turbo you could take the WasteGate lose from the diaphram, but that will not stop an oil leak.

Sorry but you are pretty much stuck till you fix the turbo.

What have you done to determine the oil is leaking internally in the turbo?

the intercooler has lots of oil puddled in it.

Is it smoking when you run the car?

If it isn't that could have been residual from when the drain return line was bad. You may also want to check if you have a stock airbox the amount of oil inside the box from the rebreather hose connection. If you have excessive blow-by under boost it will draw oil in there.

Do you have alot of oil on the inside of the intercooler piping? It is normal to see a coating of oil...but not puddling!

If I was you I would remove the intercooler and poor paint thinner or (be careful) gasoline in it. Slosh it around inside...rinse and repeat until the oil is gone. Then run it for a week or two and see if you have puddling again.  :icon_cool:

Gasoline although $$ these days wouldbe your best bet to clean it out

i used Berryman's Chem dip.  it comes in a large can and you can get it at just about any parts store.  i filled my intercooler with it and let it sit over night (i also covered the ends and sloshed it around every once in awhile).  got that thing CLEAN!

Thank you all for your info.  The car smokes severely when running.  Oil is present throughout the tubing in the entire induction system.  No oil in the aircleaner housing.  I heard there is a local shop that rebuilds turbos. Not sure about these but will ask.  Thanks again!

Well if you are smoking all the time then yeah you have seal issues or you may want to make sure the hose used for the oil return is oil resistant. In a years time something that is not oil resistant will swell and stop the return of oil to the oil pan.

Sorry but I always look at the least expensive solutions first. ;)
