Is there a way to make the deck flush with the stereo bezel, or do I have to install my deck and have it hang out 3 inches with a massive mounting unit?

I have seen it done before on a car on ebay, and I really would prefer not to destroy any of the plastic mounting for the stock stereo, but have never seen it in person.  All decks I have seen usually come out a few inches in cars of this type.

New HU is a sony CDX-FW570.  maybe 6 1/2" deep, normal size deck, not 1.5 DIN.

Any input??

I haven't seen any aftermarket kits out there, but I decided to make my own, and after I did, I understood WHY there aren't any kits out there.

Basically what I did, was cut out the rear part of the radio housing, and cut 1/8" ABS Plastic to fit the opening, and then rounded the top and bottom edges back to meet the stock radio mount points. The radio housing cover, and the HVAC controls are extended about 3/4 - 1" out from their stock locations to allow the radio housing cover to fit over the ABS plastic radio mount. If that doesn't make any sense, I can understand. I have more pictures than this somewhere which shows exactly how it is all setup. I just snapped these a few minutes ago.

The second picture the headunit appears to be tilted up, and it is. You don't notice it from the seats, and I'm not THAT particular in how it looks.

when I installed my 1.5 din in the other TGP I broke out the plastic as well, but you say you cut it out.  Whats the best way to do that?

Interested in making me one of those plates??   :icon_mrgreen:

I'll make it worth your while, that install looks real nice, others I have seen have a huge rounded mount and it sticks out about 2 inches more than that, I don't want that at all.

If you make one...would you make two while you are at it Luke?

I will be putting in the new HU in the next month or so.

What you have pictured there looks damn NICE! :thumb:

Sure, I can make them. I won't be able to get to them until this summer (mid-late may/early june) as I have to get classes done with first.
I'll dig the rest of the pics up tonight so you can see how it fits.

Me too! Your estimated time for completion will be perfect for me so no worries. ;) :icon_cool:

Alright, I'll start gathering materials then.
I need to fabricate myself a ABS plastic bender though.. the method I used to bend the current one was pretty pathetic (grill lighter back and forth over the plastic, bending it over the work bench). It worked, but not very well.

Installation pictures   (sorry, their a little over exposed)   If they don't load, it's because my server at home has taken a shit again (it's been doing that lately).

Top part of the radio mount, slides in to the stock mount points.

Lower mount points. Uses the stock mount methods
.

Installed, awaiting the radio box cover.

Holes of the radio box cover drilled larger so it can be extended out.

Plastic removed from the rear of the radio box.

I've got some better tools for the dremel now than I did back when I made that (in the old TGP), so the production pieces will look much better than this one. One thing I will need to know when I start making them is the depth of your headunit. One thing I HAD to do with mine is use right-angle 90*, RCA adapters. This made the RCA cables face downward instead of out which allowed the radio to fit better. You can pick those up for cheap, so it's nothing terrible.
