Just pulled my TGP into the garage to clean her up, and when I started it up, the lights got really dim then brighter...now that's happened before, but whenever i put the brakes on the lights kinda pulsated...not TOOO drastic, but bad enough that I need some advice. Keep in mind my x-over is more than likely hashed, and I have a slight hold in my exhaust...but I don't know if that stuff would factor in...I need help...please help!

Krenzy,

Do you have a digital volt meter or access to one? Most likely your alternator is starting to die or your battery might have a dead cell. Does it have difficulty starting like the motor is turning over slowly?

If you have a volt meter just check the output voltage of the alternator and then check the voltage again at the battery terminal to see if you have a loss there.

You can also take it to an Auto Zone or Checker Auto to have them put their electrical system analyzer on your car. My TGP will barely dim the lights with the PMIII pump. The TSTE is another story...it will actually pull the motor down slightly! ;)

See I just replaced the alternator like...2 months ago?...and when they checked both my battery and old alternator they said both were fine, but that the alternator could've been giving off a false reading (I wish I had that job lol)...so I just replaced the alternator for shits and giggles and there wasnt much of a difference...a small bit, but still. Is it likely that the new alternator is already shot?

Our TGP does what Kenny's TSTE does, the PMIII pump will pull the motor down sometimes..
I checked all of the grounds and sanded all of the rust off of them a while back, and that fixed the problem for about a week, but after that, it was back again. So I'd probably be leaning towards weak ground connections from rust, corrosion or whatever else affects them.

if you want me to build you some ground cables. I use 2 gauge and gold ends. I am building a set for the black widow as soon as I order the cable from parts express. I will be taking off the grounds and matching up perfect length match with stock but you gotta get gold battery sidepost terminals which I can put in my order as well.

All my electrical failures went away after replacing the 3 wires I built. you will also get more horsepower with your hotter spark. I guarantee you will feel it in your seat. I build em all the time for every vehicle I own its the first thing I do. I have done them for my employees just so they could drive to work safe! can do the crimps very good now with my special wide crimpers.

also...you may want to get those red LED tail light replacements too before the brake light switch fries on you. they look more of a ruby red color too instead of slightly orange like the stock incandescent power suckers.

Mechanically disinclined: how hard is it to replace the ground cables?

Also thanks for the tip on the PMIII...I'll try and get her into the garage and brush the corrosion off

GangstGP...

Make a new thread with a picture of your ground cables to include price, length, gauge used, etc in the WTB / For Sale section and I will make it a sticky for you.

I may pick up a set from you. With all the work I am doing lately I am seeing some things that need attention and throwing in some ground cables couldn't hurt right now. If your prices with shipping are reasonable I will not go though the hassle of building them for myself.

Peace...Kenny :icon_cool:

GangstGP

will do, I will make like 3 sets to start with. if all else fails maybe I could trade them for some parts I need. It wont cost me more than 20-30 bucks, and they sell those hyperground kits for like what, a hundred bucks or more?

Hey, if you're still doing those ground cables I'd be interested in 2 sets! E-mail me if they're available.

Oh really? alright. I have been plagued by setbacks for the last few weeks but I will make up an order for about 4-5 sets here in a few days, maybe tomorrow...I got my part #s written down here so I will start that thread soon now that I got a better idea of the supplies I need to order. Do you want the whole "Big 5" kit?

here is a link to the big 5 thread. I am thinking about offering everything except the amp wires.
