There are a lot of us having problems with broken EGR tubes. Replacing them with tubes from 17 and older year old 2.8s is not going to fix our problem forever. They're just as shitty as our original tubes. EGR disable/blockoff is not an option for a lot of us as far as emissions testing goes. As far as I know, Jeff M. has few to none left; in any case, certainly not enough to go around.

For the record, no, that did not work. the JB weld wouldn't have held up to the heat anyway, obviously.

But.

That yellow piping is stainless steel flexable natural gas line that I bought from Home Depot. It screwed onto the EGR crossover bung perfectly.

The problem is getting one end securely into the flange on the valve side. If we can get one that's exactly the right length, we can try cutting off the screw-fitting, putting the end through the stock flange and flaring the end of the pipe to fit snug. We have to get the right size though, we can't cut along the flex area because we'll never get the end straightened out and flared correctly. We need a pipe roughly 8 inches long. The stock was a little bit shorter, we might have to go to 7 inches. The lowest I've seen these made in is 10 inches, but shorter may be out there, or maybe the possibility of having custom lengths made. The original tube I bought was 24", and is manufactured by Brasscraft. It's their ProCoat (powdercoated, from the sound of it) line.

I see this as a really good, relatively cheap solution to our EGR tube replacments if we can find the right size.

What is/was the cost of the factory replacement tube?

I went scavenging around all my local junk yards. And I found 2 EGR tubes that will work on the TGP. Althou one was trashed the other was good. But the part that I thought was interesting was that both EGR tubes were off 88 Buick Regals with the 2.8. So maybe we do have a avenue for replacement with some careful searching..

Brian,

Are they a direct replacement...or is there modification needed?

They are a direct replacement. I mentioned 2.8 tubes in my first post. They're a little bit longer, but they fit.

But, they're also just as old or older than our tubes to begin with. So having one that lasts isn't exactly solved, unless you want to track down a part number and see if GM still carries them.

Well I guess if they are no longer available I could setup either a SS plate for the flange and tig weld it or if the flange is already SS then just get some SS tubing and make them. Wouldn't be hard at all to do if it is already SS at the flange.

I will look at mine tonight...need to pull the topend apart anyway for the injectors. If it is SS consider EGR tubes available immediately...otherwise I will have to talk to my machine shop to get SS plates created.

They are direct replacements if you look for them on the 88 regal. When you are searching for them its really easy to spot if it has the right tube or not. All you have to do is look at the rear manifold. If the bung is on the rear of the manifold, the tube is to long. If the bung is on the front of the manifold, its a direct replacement for the TGP's.
