wow, this was a bitch.  i got that damn plate out though :icon_biggrin:  i'm swapping it out to convert to vacuum brakes and also so i don't have to modify that hole for the clutch master cylinder for the 5-speed swap.  i don't have a replacement plate from a vacuum brake/5-speed car but i already know of one in the local j/y.  i wanted to take the plate out of my car first so i knew what tools to take and so i didn't have to stay there forever trying to figure out how to get it out of there.

the pedal bracket.  the hardest part about removing this is the brake pedal pivot bolt.  it's a bitch to remove even with the dash out of the way :bash:

the firewall plate:

even after i get the right plate installed and the dash back together i still need to replace the brake lines going out back.  slowly gettting there though!

Please take good pictures and do a write-up for the vacuum install so I can get it in the How Do I section. Cool? :icon_cool:

I may take that accumulator off your hands though.
I've got a spare "new" GM one sitting here, but it's been sitting for a long time. Don't know what the shelf life on these things are.

heck you can come get it whenever you want.  it's just sitting in the garage.  i have no idea when i could meet you anywhere with it though.  might be awhile before i'm able to do it.  what does a 4T60 weigh anyway?

Hell if I know what it weighs, a lot I'm sure, if you save 100+ pounds with a 282, I'm sure its somewhere in the 250 range or so....I'll see if I can find any specs in the manual I have....

Out of curiosity, what is your zip code.  If its really not that heavy I'm sure I could round up a truck and get it from your garage....Hell, if we could get it in the trunk of our Beretta safely we could do that  using cars as storage facilities for the win :icon_lol:

zip is 82716.  Gillette is about 240 miles north of Cheyenne IIRC.

woot!  i went to the salvage yard and it turns out the cars are still there, they just don't have them listed in the computer for some reason.  i'll be taking alot of pics tomarrow while i remove the plate and pedal bracket.  thank god too, i thought i'd have to go all the way down to Denver and just hope that i found a 5-speed Grand Prix somewhere.

i got the 5-speed/vacuum brakes firewall plate, pedal bracket with brake and clutch pedal, brake switch, cruise switches for each pedal, CC module, and entire clutch hydraulic system out in one piece.  wayyyy easier to pull all of it out as an assembly:

i also got the brake booster, 3-point dogbone, and metal firewall shields.  got everything for $35  :icon_biggrin:  i thought it was interesting the '88 GP used a 2-piece metal firewall shield instead of the big 'blanket' thing like both of my cars have.  i'm sure the blanket is better at deadening sound, but the metal firewall shields look much better IMO so i went ahead and got 'em.  i'll try to get a good writeup done on this soon, but i still need to get more pictures and photoshop them so i can point out all of the fasteners etc.

I just pulled the entire brake system out of the now-junked 90 lumina we have. I pulled the whole front strut/brake assy from the front, all the brake lines from front to back, rear calipers just in case, master and all the fire wall assym. IT WAS A BITCH! Before this I had pulled the tranny, rack-n-pinion, fans, starter, and belt driven acess. So I was already tired.

All the easy part was removing the lines and booster. HARD part was getting the plate out. I thought I had all the bolts, but two were hiding inside the beam that goes across the dash. You can only see them from outside the windsheld. Then another was hiding on the right side, then getting the dam brake pedal bolt off..guess this is the pevit bolt TurboSedan was talking about. After that..I was fighting with the A/c ,and heater core lines. I tried my hardest to push the whole A/C assym off the fire wall..but it won't move more than 1/2 inch. So out came my problem solver..I got the Slege, Broke that SOB into fragments. Got a crowbar and bent the A/C lines out the way..out came the plate.

I hope its easy---er when time comes for the TGP. Any pointers you got for moving the A/C system out the way for the plate?
