Well....a couple nights ago idling after a long drive on the highway, I noticed the temp gauge up at like 220 rather than the 160 it never passes. Turns out my primary cooling fan wasn't turning on. I paperclipped the ALDL and it was getting power but not turning on, so I pulled it out today and ghetto tiewrapped a fan out of my parts Z34 in for now so I can still drive it.

My question is, what is the GM part number for the TGP primary fan motor?, and I heard that the old blade won't fit on the new motor, so what vehicle should I get the blade from?

Thanks

When mine died many years ago I replaced it with one from Checker Auto! :icon_redface: I HATE buying from them, but honestly the motor and fan was not available for two weeks from my dealer. The motor even to today has no shaft play or noise in it...but it does have a lifetime warranty so who cares I guess.

It will depend on if your current motor is threaded or not. If it is threaded you can replace just the motor. If it has a clip holding the fan blade in place then that is the older version. Both the fan motor and blade would need to be replaced.

Mine is the older style with the clip. The only problem is that I live in Ontario, and none of our parts stores have listings for TGP specific parts.

Accoding to that webpage, the motor on the Z34 fan I'm using right now is the same as the TGP one, and they both have the clip ends. Maybe I can just put the Z34 motor on the TGP fan.

Worth a try that is for sure.

Is there a difference between the N/A fan and the TGP/TSTE puller fan? I don't remember if there was. :icon_cool:

The blade and the mounting bracket is different between the N/A and turbo puller fans, but the motors appear to be the same. I have the N/A one in the car right now. It plugs right in and works fine.....but its held in by tiewraps LOL. I have the blade, motor and bracket all seperated from the TGP fan now, but I have to goto work, so I'll finish the job tomorrow. I'll update you when I see if it works out or not.

Well the fan motor out of my 92 Z34 wasn't compatible with the TGP fan blade.

So... I went down to Earls Auto Wreckers and picked up a primary puller fan out of a 95 Lumina 3100. It's the newer style with the threaded shaft. The motor bolts right into the TGP fan bracket and the electrical plug plugs right in.

The fan blade fits perfectly inside the bracket, and best of all it looks nice and factory.

The new fan blade has curved blades and more of them. I don't know what difference that makes. I'm just happy I got it fixed up for $35 CDN.

Thats exactly what I did. I found 2 of the clip style motors in the local yards, but one had a bad bearing, and the other wouldnt power up at all.
