Ok, I might be getting a car, its an 88 Grand Am, but theres some problem with the transmission, Im think this might be the TCC lock up solenoid like stuck on. WHat it does is die ususally when put into gear, 95% of the time, and if you do get it doing it dies right when you stop. Sound like the culprit? it also makes a rattling sort of noise when put into gear then kills the engine. To add its only got 89k on it, so i thought it was a little early for the trans to take a shit

Does it stall because it slams into gear and immediately drops RPMs like a manual transmission? Or does it sputter slightly and bog the engine to a stall? Same when you come to a stop...does it just run down the RPMs like you are driving a manual tranny and not pushing in the clutch at the stop?

Prospeeder

i dunno, i havent seen it, its on ebay

Well ask that person the same questions. If it is stalling just like it is a manual car without pushing in the clutch then the TCC is stuck. If it doesn't act like a manual then most likely it is loading up on fuel and die-ing. Not 100% diagnosis by any means without seeing and driving it...but having had 3 TH125 equiped cars in the past the TCC is a common issue.

Hey I'm gonna chime in with a question of my own, and hope you guys were talking about torque converters lol. But on my TGP, it does happen to slam into gear, and it takes it's time changing gears, like it sucks out as much of first before it goes to second, second to third....and there's a power loss. Now, I am in the process of correcting my crossover pipe issue, and I wanted to see if it's possible that the reason my tranny slams hard is because of a torque converter acting up or? LOL any help with that is greatly appreciated. P.S. news on getting that crossover finished should be coming soon this week...I work 12 hour days all week, so it's a spare time project.

Krenzy,

Most likely a slamming tranny in a TGP is the three way check valve on the modulator. I tried to find the old post I had with pictures of the proper location and vacuum line routing and could not find it. I can take pictures again tonight to show you to make sure it is routed properly.

Did you not get the rear manifold to seal properly on the cross-over?

I haven't even been home/conscious till now lol. Been working since the day after I put it in and I go to work in ten minutes. So I will try and get her in the garage when I get off work and check that check valve, and try and get it seated. Time hates me lol.

grinders_18

Where exactly is the check valve located?

I would also like to see these pictures. Mine doesnt slam all the time. I would say once in 100 park to drive shifts. I think its RPMS are to high when shifting. But I could be wrong..

YES I KNOW MY TURBO INLET IS NASTY! I was trying an oil catch can I attempted and it failed. Like Edison when he invented the lightbulb...he tried 1000 different ways on how not to invent it till he finally did! ;)

Ok...so you can see the orientation of the 3 way check valve.

The picture shows the "T" left, right, and towards the tranny.

Right side should be vented to air. Mine has a piece of vacuum line on it to keep foreign material and water out of it.

Left should run up to the vacuum port on the throttle body.

Towards the tranny should go into the vacuum modulator can.

Pay close attention to the shape and design of the "T". It should look just like that or the check valve is backwards and ...SLAM!

If it is direct to the throttle body without a "T" in place.... SLAM!

No "T" ....SLAM!

wow dude that turbo looks like hell... Thanks for the pics, mine doesnt have that check valve at all. Straight vaccum from the intake. That could be my problem. Either that or to much boost and not enuf vaccum..

Ok so I just traced the loose tube to the throttle body....there's the left line of the t valve....where's the valve and left line, and line to the canister then?
