I was driving my TGP today on this road that goes from 55 mph to 35 mph, so I coasted from 55, got down to 35, and I looked in my rearview mirror and there is smoke everywhere!!  So, I stepped on the gas and it stopped smoking within a second.  BTW the smoke was a light blue.  What could be causing this?  I've only seen my TGP do this twice since I bought it, both times after coasting for a while.  No check engine light, either.  Any ideas?

Blue Smoke = Oil
White Smoke = Coolant
Black Smoke = Fuel

I say its turbo seals as mentioned before in other posts

when your coasting that builds the most vacuum, light blue can also be transmission fluid, as in the modulator has failed and is allowing transmission fluid to be drawn up into the intake, there 20$, or u can pull off the vacuum line off the modulator and see if its wet or oily

I pulled the line- no oil in it.
But the smoke WAS a light blue, like you described.

I would also like to add that the previous owner replaced the turbo ~12,000 miles ago.

Maybe your burning a bit of oil then???

whats the milage on the car?

Blue smoke means your burning some kinds oil

TGP Nick

It only has 120,000 miles on it.  The thing is, I've only seen it do this twice, the first time was just a noticeable blue puff of smoke, the other time (a few days ago) was a BIG whitish/blue cloud of smoke.  Other than those two times, it has never done this before.

try replacing the Turbo oil drain line, they can get all clogged up too, allowing oil to get backed up and get pushed out the seals. Its only like 12$ from ATP turbo. 5/8 ID ull need a foot. All silicone hose. It fixed my problem with smoking. If that doesnt fix it, try the modulator, and if not, its the turbo, or possible failed valve stem seals.

Alright I'll start with the turbo drain line.  Do you happen to have the link for the ATP turbo line?
Thanks alot!

Speeder FTW!!

When I first purchased my car I had issues with smoking and a little bit of hesitation.  IDK if you have replaced the x-over pipe, but that crack can REALLY screw with the ways these cars run.  If that car has 120k and still has the stocker, replace it and do some routine maintenance.  How old is the O2 sensor?  May want to look into replacing that one as well, and if you didn't know, AC Delco with the purple wire is the one you want, the best one IMO and many others.  I've used Bosch and they really just crap out.

You should really replace that return line as well.   They don't typically become clogged but they sort of unravel from the inside and can actually cause it to collapse internally, preventing the flow of oil back to the pan and thereby sending it backwards through the exhaust.

Also silicon drain lines are the way to go.  I used some hose I got from a diesel shop (BIG trucks).  Man that thing was not forgiving at all and real stiff.  The silicon is better IMO and would suggest it, not only for quality but for ease of installation.

Okay thanks guys.  My TGP is TOTALLY STOCK- cracked crossover, stock chip, all oem sensors, plugs, wires, intake, exhaust- EVERYTHING is stock.  The only thing that I know has been done with it is: the cat has been gutted, and my A/C condenser has been relocated- so there is nothing in front of the intercooler.

I went out and drove the TGP today- it ran great, except for the smoke.  I went on about a 40 mile round trip, and there are about 20 stops/intersections to stop at.  AT LEAST 10 out of the 20 stops, the TGP let out a small blue puff of smoke.  So I'm thinkin the line totally went today.  The TGP is now parked in my garage and isn't coming out until springtime.  If it is nice the next week or so, I'll test it out with the new line, but if not, she's gonna sit until spring.  Long story short, I'm gonna spend the winter while it's parked doing a full onceover, replacing everything and getting it to run right.

Would it hurt anything if I drove it around to get the majority of the gas out of the tank?(I still have 3/4 tank of gas in it  :icon_mad: )
I don't want to have a tankful of old gas sitting in the car over the winter.

just buy a bottle of stabil at your local parts store.  Follow the instructions for the proper dilution into your tank.  If your tank says about 3/4 then you would have about 10 gallons left.  Give or take a few.  Add a little extra it cant hurt.  The TGP fuel tank is 16 gallons but the bottom half of the tank goes faster than the top given its shape, at least it does in mine.  I would say add stabil for 12 gallons of fuel then drive it around a bit to make sure it runs through the lines and injectors, then shut her down.
