Alright I bought an oil return line from Kenny today.  When I get it and install it, I'll give an update as to if it is still smoking or not.

After replacing my original turbocharger after 106,000 miles, the replacement rebuilt turbo lasted 700 miles.

One morning I drove downtown and used turbo extensively, being in a hurry, and going to contest a parking ticket.  At a stoplight in downtown Chicago, I pulled up nexxt to a homeless guy standing on the sidewalk.  He looked at me, then at my car, then at the TGP plaque and mouthed the word, "Turbo."

The light turned green and I drove around the corner.  As I glanced in the rear-view mirror, I saw a towering cloud of blue smoke.  It was by then several stories high in the valley they call Dearborn Street. Suddenly, my car began running very erratically.  I quickly realized that all of that blue smoke was coming from my car.

I guess that the homeless man thought that all "turbos" run that way.  LOL

My car managed to limp back, about 13 miles to my mechanic's place, where he ordered and installed the free replacement which was still going strong at 193,000 miles.

May all of your smoke problems be little ones.  LOL

Homeless man must have said "feel sorry for that guy" when he saw the smoke barreling out  then went back to his cardboard box  :icon_mrgreen:

LOL.    I'm thinkin it isn't my turbo cuz it doesn't have any play in it.  I checked it with the engine hot.  Just waitin for the line, then I'll see what happens.

Check back here if you need advice, but its pretty straight forward.  I think you're best removing the lower and upper charge pipes from the turbo, it gives you maximum room to manuever.  I would say get some 1/4" sockets, and couple of extensions, and a ratchet of course, then go to town.

FYI - make sure you picture how you put those clamps on, so when you install it no confusion, get it on, get it tight, and wait and see some more (to see if it still smokes)!!   Anyway, like I said, check back here if you need any advice.  My suggestion, just take it all the way down, get the crossover fixed, and then put it back together!

Good luck!

It doesn't run anymore.

Should I clean out my intercooler also?  I'm just wondering if any oil could have possibly gotten into there with it smoking.

If you've got the time and don't need to drive it, do it.  When you disconnect the lower pipe from the turbo to the I/C, if there is any noticeable oil, then clean it should definetely be cleaned.

I just got the line, so I should be putting it on in the next day or two.  I'll test it once my brakes work.  ;)

I put the new oil return line on today and I would like to say thanks to Kenny- the line went on easily and fits perfectly; thank you!  ;)  Once I get my brakes figured out, then I'll take her out to see if she still smokes!

Hey no worries Nick. I apologize for the delay. The end of that week was not so good for me. Spending 20+ hours in the bathroom was not fun!

Those lines are tougher than anything ATP sells...that is for sure! They are a little harder to get over the nipple fittings...but they will NEVER leak! ;)

TGP Nick

Thanks, man!  It was well worth the wait.  :icon_cool:

you guys get a bad batch of lettuce out in Colorado as well?

Its been all over the news here, Taco Bell was distributing E. Coli around the northeast, apparently traced to lettuce.  Dinosaur BBQ took a hit a couple weeks back, apparently someone was distributing a stomach flu like virus, 600 people got sick.  Thats a big deal too, that place is huge business and the food is great.  I won't think twice about eating there, but Taco Bell, forget about it.  That place is nasty anyway.

They fared better than Chi Chis though, Hepatitis on the scallions.  We don't have Chi Chis here anymore LOL.
