hey guys i know i pissed some of you off on last thread but you guys made me come back into realizsion. I have been surfin around the site seeing what you guys are doing and want to do to your cars. The one thing i cam across you guys kept talking about is a t3 turbo setup. Iam have my 3.1 turbo motor rebuilt and want to get the difficult mods done while out of the car. Is the T3 turbo a good investment to make? and also are there any other supportive mods would you recommend? I have a T4 .60 turbo in my garage from a different project but iam assumeing its to big for the motor but let me know otherwise.

I don't think anybody is pissed off.  A little bit of a reality check is sometime required. I have to have one once a month. :icon_lol:

As for turbos. Of all the performance turbos made the GT series is the only one that will bolt on with minor mods. You can get theses sized up to 550  HP for our CFM.  Anything else requires a new crossover and down pipe due to the different flanges.

If you want to play light to light than the smaller GT"s will defiantly fit the bill. If you want to drag on the track then the larger ones will fit the bill. The difference in the two groups is the smaller ones will roast the tires into second gear, the larger ones start roasting at the end of first and darn near through 2nd depending on the track. Little ones spool immediatly, bigger ones in the 28-3k+ range. If your running a stick and can get the driveline to hold up than doesn't make a lot of difference which one you use Spooling won't be the problem. With a auto you will have to foot brake to the max with the big ones. I mean like I pull 26-2700 launching. Not something I like to do. I keep picturing my converter going down the track without me. :icon_rolleyes:

I've had them both. For messing around on the street I would go with a small one. If your going to do any kind  drag racing go for broke.

T3, T4, I would think there are better choices. Don't know much about them, seams to me there old technology.

Hope this helps

I just wanted to say, I BUSTED out laughing last night when I found a loose DP in my garage from a TGP.     Compared to my WRX 3" stainless bellmouth DP it's a joke.  (4" Bellmouth to a 3" pipe)  But at least it's a cast bellmouth design from the factory.  The Rex had a non-bellmouth stocker.  The exhaust from the W/G just crashed into the flange.   :icon_rolleyes:

Well Jeff there the best I know of for our application. Don't know about other size turbos  I've never investigated orther size turbos like I did the GT's.

So by what you are saying the 3.1 does best with the T25 for street applications? Everyone on v6z24.com told me I should be going T3 or larger. What do you guys think?
red 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24
brand new GM 3.1L V6 crate engine
Garrett T25 turbo w/MBC, water and oil cooled
custom crossover with T25-style flange
2.5" downpipe with T25-style flange
custom 2" charge pipes (smooth bent)
Snow Performance Stage 1 Boost Cooler system (water/methanol injection) with 150 psi pump and 100 mm spray nozzle (good for up to 250 hp)
MSD 2-bar MAP sensor
Ford 19# yellow top injectors
TGP oil pan
K&N air filter RU-0800
3-wire Denso heated O2 sensor

No...the T25 is way too small for our application. The GT series of turbos go to better than 500HP. If you want a direct bolt on you need to stick with the T-25 style mounting.

No, No, nobody on here is saying a T25 is the best turbo. Read the previous posts. The GT series is light years ahead of the T25 series and the choices are far superior to any other frame for our motors. Got it. Read them again. :icon_confused:

Good luck

Oh ok, my bad guys. Didn't mean to make anyone mad here. I see what you are talking about now, about the GT series. I read some of the specs on a GT28s, not bad. However, I just dropped quite a bit of money into my setup, so I am just going to try it for now and see how much power I can get out of it because I have no more money to spend.

 Nobody's mad. Just wanted to make sure you understand what we were saying. Work with the T25 till you learn it and the money tree grows up. Then graduate to the GT turbos. Just the plain GT28 will blow you away with the extra performance. :icon_biggrin: It can also blow your motor if your not carfull. It will eat pistons for breakfast, lunch, dinner and a bedtime snack.

Have fun
