well my turbo is officially smoked. blew the seals and its blowing oil all over the place, and coolant too. so i'd like to know if its possible to remove the downpipe from the turbo with it still in the car. i installed it all as one piece, so i don't even know how to get it off out of the car. those two bolts on the backside are in a really tight place. any help greatly appreciated

from under the car i believe you can access the 2 bolts that hold it on the bracket.....you need a few long extentions and some patience

are you talking about the turbine bolts or the bolts between the upper/lower downpipes? cause i know i can get those ones off, i just don't want to have to go that far. i want to take off the bolts right on the turbine if i can

oh ya you can with a stubby 13mm get the turbine to DP bolts out, the worst ones are the 2 lowest ones but not a major issue.

i thought you ment the ones on the back of the engine where the DP bolts to that bracket off the heads.

yeah i'm trying to limit the teardown. if i took the pipe off there i'd have to take off my crossover and that one coolant line. although i'm sure the crossover is cracked

I've had my turbo off twice now, and a stubby 13mm or 1/2" wrench works wonders removing the turbo to downpipe bolts. Remember to antiseize the bolts before putting them back in.

:laugh:Ive had my trubo of at least 10 or 12 times. I always unbolt the turbo from the Xover, pull up on it and block it then the bottom bolts are a piece of cake. Damn why didn't think of that.

Happy new year.

get yourself a set of gearwrenches, specifically one with a 13mm in the set.  I can remove my turbo in about 45 mins to an hour.  I've done it a few times as well.

There are 5 holding it to the DP adapter, hardest one IMO is the bottom one.  When you have it out its a good idea to run a tap through the holes on the turbo to make sure they are clean, xthreading sucks, especially when its the last bolt.  trust me i know that as well.  I think the bolts at 10x1.25, but don't hold me to that, check them yourself.
