Well.... Maybe not freeze to death. But anyway I am wondering if anyone knows how the Climate control system functions. I automatically removed all of the panels to access the heater core. It appears to  be fine. It does not leak, and it does get hot when I run the engine and let the coolant get hot. The door that circulates air to the heater core is open in the re compartment. Strange enough s out. It leads to a second problem. slide lever on the Control unit from hot to cold, None of the doors move. Still not heat. Does anyone know how the system should work and what my problem could be? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Possibly a vacuum problem not opening the doors.

You have no vacuum going to the climate control system. Everything you said points to this. You will need to start chasing the vacuum line all the way out and through the firewall. Somewhere along the line you have a crack or it is disconnected. Once you get the line fixed, it will open the valve that controls the amount of heat to the heater core, and the shutters that control where the air comes out... 8)

well if the cruise control doesn't work either, then its at the check valve under the cruise diaphram.

 You know what, the cruise control isn't working. I was going to tackle that one afterwards. I am going to check that out and I will let everyone know what I find out.

I found out what the problem was finally :) . I pulled out the glove box and then removed the fuse center on the passenger side. all of the vacuums were fine. I dont know how many people have had this problem, but the electromechanical unit that opens and closes the door from the heater core to the A/C core was stuck in the A/C position. I took down that unit and cracked it open. The little low voltage motor inside was stuck.
I turned it a little to loosen it up and it started to work again. Put it all back up and the door started to work. Then, all of a sudden it is no hotter than hell in there. For anyone who might be having problem with their system, this is one that had me for a while, but I hope it helps someone else.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure it will help someone, someday!
