I've read through several threads regarding the high torque mini starters, and some people reused all the shim, other used none at all, and some only used 1 of the 2 shims.

My old starter had 2 shims, one thick, one thin. What should I reinstall?

I have the old starter out of the car now, I just need an answer before I install the high torque mini starter.

Thanks

Start with the original shims. Check the engament after a few starts you will be able to see where the starter is hitting the flywhel.  Most likley the original will be fine. I've had one for about 4 years using the original shims and it looks good.

So I put it all back together using the thicker of the 2 shims. It made a bit of metalliic sound when engaging so I swapped the thick shim out for the thin one which works nicely. I love the "not shitty" sound of this new starter!!
