I put mine on the lower IC pipe and it works perfect. Not to mention its nicely hidden away.

Besides where is the air pressure coming from? The turbo. Why not relieve the pressure at the source?

Just my 0.02

Some could say that the pressure is being reflected back from the TB plate causing the need for the BOV to be placed closer to the TB.

ok but the pressure in the piping between the turbo and the TB should be close to the same throughout the piping, because it is one cavity.

No matter where you relieve the pressure in that cavity, it will equalize the pressure throughout.

Maybe I'm wrong but it makes sense to me

With the BOV mounted on the upper IC pipe when the BOV opens up the turbo is still spinning and it pushes air through the intercooler.  When it cools it and you get on the throttle again, once the BOV closes you have a cool dense charge ready to go. In the case where the BOV is mounted on the Lower IC "Hot Side", when the BOV opens on the air is lost and you need to refill the intercooler again thus making it less efficient then the BOV mounted on the upper IC.  And yes there is still enough air moving through the pipes even off Throttle.

That's why Manufactures mount the Blow Off Vavles on the Upper IC.

Although, you would want to catch the most quickest build up area of the most pressurized air before it hits the compressor wheel.  That spot would be about 12"-16" away from the TB blade.

Well not all factory BOV's are mounted after the intercooler. My TIII dodge has The factory installed BOV mounted between the turbo and intercooler. Nice and quiet too it dumps it back into the rubber hose between the air cleaner and turbo stealth is good.

Who wants a quiet BOV.. the louder the better! :icon_cool: lol

Most TD's I see with BOV's changed, they placed the BOV on the upper (cooled) pipe.

Now, I'm curious about the crushed BOV's and non-crushed, since someone on here posted that a crushed one will hold more boost, yet quoting an old post from TGPilot:

Make sure you get one that is not "crushed". The ricers have crushed them thinking this is a good answer to getting a more stable boost relief and as the ricers know if it is on the internet it must be true!

Anyone?

Crushing has been around for a long time. Guys with power adders in the bike scene would "Crush" the top of the Fuel Pressure Regulators to get a few extra PSI of Fuel pressure when they were Spraying nitrous and such. Also applies for the BOV's...guys is the DSM world have been doing it since 1990. Again, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO MOD YOUR CAR. Aot of guys just get in a scene and assume because somebody else has done it, that it is the right way.

Crushing your BOV is like running high compression pistons in your engine.  It increases the pressure.  The two things are very different, but that is basically how it works.
