So I've been working on my project for about a year now. I have an 88 GP SE 2.8 w/282 that I've been working on getting a TGP setup for. I think in one of the million posts I've read over the year Turbosedan said it's best to buy a parts car, and use that rather than try to piece it together. I did it the hard way, and let me tell you it sucks.

Being a college student I haven't had much time at home. I go to school about 8 hours away from home, and don't get there often. I started the project my senior year of college, and I'm now in a Master's program that doesn't give me much time to sleep, let alone work on my car. I had to resort to breaks and long weekends to get stuff done. My parents were a bit salty because whenever I came home, I was in the garage instead of doing family stuff.

So combined with not being around, and not having a parts car, and sellers renigging on parts  :icon_rolleyes:, it took me about a year to get done. I'm still a bit salty about the whole thing cobracmdr but whatever, it's running now, albeit not well. I did a data log of the startup and there is a weird pressure spike at startup.

I started the data log with the ignition on, and the car off, and then started the car, and it shows a spike up to about 180 kPa for an instant, just long enough to trigger a code 34 (high map). I'm thinking my egr is sticking open some how, and letting a pulse in before it shuts, or the sensor is fubar. I'm back at school now, so i'll have to try and get my friend or dad to troubleshoot via phone.

Anyway, here's a few pics. I was just home for 3 days at Easter, so i didn't get the boost gauge mounted, hence sitting on the wipers, or the wb 02 run yet, still on the NB, but considering that it was my first engine pull, and clutch replacement and it moves and runs I consider it a success. I'll leave the fine tuning for once I graduate.

Comments/criticism welcome.
Enjoy...

more pics to follow, finished pics in about 2 months. If i can swing a long weekend, I may go home and glass up the guage pod and tune, but I have a thesis in the way first.

That's an awesome project man!!! I'm so ready for mine to be back together, hopefully next weekend. How are you going to route your boost guage wire?

I'm going to eventually do a pod, but I have yet to decide how/what I want. First priority is getting the engine and tranny back in and make sure it's running right

Thanks man, I know the feeling. I couldn't wait to get this thing running. I still have a little bit of work ahead, but it's all easy stuff from here.

I'm probably going to run the boost gauge line though the grommet that I have my amp power wire running though. I'll probably take the backlight wire from the parking lamp wire that I have my alarm run to. I think my wb O2 setup is going to require another hole in the firewall though since I have to run 8 wires for that.

I think my MAP sensor may be shot. I tried unplugging the egr and later going to a decent amount of throttle at startup, and it's still reading a pressure spike of around 180 kPa just as the engine is turning over. Then the readings it gives out are fine. It's showing ~34 kPa at idle, which if I converted right, should be about 20 inHg. So somehow it's registering like 11psi at cranking and then goes away.

Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks,
Jon
