I got lined up with a 94+ GTP tonight. It was dark green, and had a female passanger. I was in my TGP with a passanger and 3 bowling balls [about 36lbs]. I didn't think he was going to race me, but he floored it. He had 2 cars on me before I could react. I caught upto him at about 50mph and just shot by him like he was standing still. He was stilling flooring it when I passed him because I heard his motor going WOT. I got 2-3 car lengths before I shut it down at 70mph.

I thought a DOHC GTP would have given me a better run then that. Maybe he didn't have his car tuned right or something?

I have driven a '91 GTP and it was pretty sluggish until you got the rev's up past 3500 or so. I know my TGP would have beaten it.

With the 3.4 DOHC it is cosistant power (210 hp) no curve, on the TGP the power goes up with the turbo spooling, same as with the 97+ GTPs.

The 3.4 should have gotten you out of the hole, but kept pulling?

Most likely he let up on the throttle for a second, thinking you weren't going to race.  I learned a long time ago that if you let someone get speed and momentum charging on you even your faster car can have trouble catching them.  I owned a 92 3.4 DOHC GP auto.  They run very similar to the turbo, just don't get cooking as fast off the line, but charge harder to the limits. His being a 94 it had the auto and only 200 Hp. GTPs are loaded with all the heavy options.  To sum it up If he hesitated he lost.
Plus TGPs are just plain quicker than any other w-body combination, albeit not by a lot with a lightweight 5-speed z-34 or GP.

GTP's run 15.6  TGP's run 15.3 per magazine articles. :wink:

they may have 5 HP on us but we have like 10+lbs tq on them and Tq is what is used for take off. HP is for maintaining momentum. {how ever you spell it.}
I have Raced several 91-96 GTP's with my STE they think they are the Shit untill a little old family sedan Kicks there ass.....Muhahaha

I was Driving one day this fall in my 78 Lincoln town car, and I was Fallowing this 99 Trans am with t tops.
He turned off and well I had to go that way to so I turned again and continued to Fallow we where going about 67 in a 55 then the on ramp came and I put my Turn signal on and well he Turned to. and Guned it. My lincoln was sitting for over 12 years and I had not put anything other then a new Fuel pump power stearing hose and Timming Chain. and a set of used tires on her.
needs the Tranny fluid and Filter, oil Change, carb rebuild and plugs, wires, router.

Yeah that car is Mean as Hell, when I hit it Hard she will have so much tq that the Front Pass Tire almost leaves the Ground. would hate to see what its going to do after I fix all that stuff. I want to Rig up a Turbo set up or a S/C for it adventualy and Drop it to the Gound and get rid of all the chrome except the bumper and Grill.
