Stereo Noise

Hi guys, new to the forum. I have a 90 TGP and it has some electrical noise in the sereo somewhere. It only happens with the stereo on. So Im sure its a ground or amp. Anyways I was wondering if this is common or not. If it is what would be the usual cause. thanks for the help.

I have the same problem too. little buzzing from the front speakers. I don't have time to look into it but if you find something let me know.

I believe the buzzing is caused by the factory amplifier going bad.

I do have a spare factory amp that I believe is in good condition if anyone's interested?

factory amp in the glove box, get a premium cassette deck from a 93 gpse and take the top half of the stereo off, it is the same thing that is in your glove box, the amp/receiver, bolts right in and has better bass response higher output.

Do you have a pic of what cassette deck you pulled from the 93 GP?

I believe it was decided that the stock head units are actually to blame for the buzzing/whine through the stereo. ;)

Here's a quote from LukeZ34:

"I think it was a common problem for the TGP Cassette decks to develop an alternator whine over time. Ours did the same thing, and I know of many others who also had the same problems. The noise did not carry over to our Pioneer deck, and it utilizes the same stock ground that the cassette deck did."

That is what I have experienced also...   ;)  The pre-amp can be removed and replaced with another or sent out for repair..

Doh!  Then they are all f'ed up!  I have had the amp go bad but never the little cube.  Weird GM radio!  I used to get background noise that did not vary with the alternator, just when you turned it on.....I got a cassette deck out of a 93 (has large buttons and graphic equilizer on it nick, no I don't have a picture but when I get one I will post it) slapped it in there and all my problems went away.  Not sure what is going on with these radio's these days!

The factory amp in mine is (was) behind the DIC.

I guess I'm talking about the receiver whatever is in the glove box is what goes bad on my cars  :laugh:

FYI I got this radio the other day and swapped in the top part of it (which again I believe is the receiver) and no problems, hum is totally gone now and the bass and sound quality is greatly improved!  The only thing that will not work with this receiver is the DNR button but who really cares when the radio has static with the old one! Now I just have to rebuild the cassette deck someday from some fierostore parts....
