blown turbo questions

I just blew my second high milage Spare turbo in the same car. Three all together between my tgps, and the shafts one has excessive shaft play, most recent a good 1/4in of play the second sheared the impeller in two and blew the bearings out the exhaust side. So the question is are they rebuildable or should i just break down and upgrade to a t-3.

You can upgrade to a T-28 Hybrid, consisting of T-28 wheels and shafts, inside the T-25 shell. Bolts right back up and if you're able to install a 360 degree thrust bearing, you ensure the longevity of the turbo.

If you screwed up the center bearing housing you are sol. They don't make replacements anymore for T25's. You will have to upgrade or get one of those cheepo chinese knockoff turbo's on Ebay. Good luck!

Ok guys I'll have shifter23 help me tear those turbos down and inspect them here in the next couple of weeks and see where I stand. Also where can I find those T-28 upgrades at?

How do you press the bearings out of the center housing without taking it to a machine shop

They are held in there with snap rings. take those out and use a small screwdriver to pop the bearings out.

You may need to do some tinkering to make it work but there is the Big16 or Big 28 upgrade as an option also.

Hey guys another question same subject different car. My black tgp that I bought off ebay. back in the fall I found out the turbo is frozen solid the shaft won't turn at all It was like that when I bought it. Is a turbo rebuidable if it is in that state of........well screwed? :icon_confused:

Can't tell unless you take it apart and inspect it. If it is seized you are probably screwed. Start looking for T25's on Ebay and piece one together or buy a GT series from Garrett and never worry about it again.

Hey quick question bout wastegate vs. bov do you need the wastegate if you have a blow off valve or would that be pushing what bad luck I normally run into?

A waste gate controls the exhaust gasses to control the amount of boost produced. The BOV just releases all the pressure if you suddenly let up off the gas, as all the pressure rushes out the turbo and is hard on the bearings. not for controlling boost
