As Stated in my other post that i just picked up my TGP and Removed the turbo and Going to remove the heads. The A/C Compressor has to be unbolted to get to the engine mount bolts.. Well I just took out the compressor and the lines that go to the canister by the battery and the condensor.. There was no freon in it and who knows if it leaked or not.. I figure Y put it back in if it doesnt work.. so I was thinking about just putting that Bypass pulley kit on it that u can get from the part store.. Who is Running that?? what else have you removed?? I was thinking just taking out the stuff from under the hood.. the condensor, and the canister by the battery and other various lines just to make more space..

Also not sure if i have seen people using a UDP on there engines or not i have one for my 96 3100 GP but didnt want to loose the Dampener... So havent used it at all..

Josh(RIP) was the only one I know of using a ac bypass pulley on his old TGP swapped Cutlass. I believe he removed everthing from under the hood. Personally, I would keep the ac. I live in GA and on some days, it's torture to have no ac when it's 95 degrees outside and humid to boot. You're not losing much weight or making a whole lot of room by removing the ac components underhood. The only advantage I see by removing that stuff is that you would have room beside the radiator to run tubing through for a front mount intercooler(where the stock intercooler now sits).

EDIT: A few people have UDP's on their cars. I'm sure one of them will chime in soon.

I run without the compressor and I do not have the dummy pulley either.  I also have a FFP UDP.  The room is nice when the engine needs to come out or I need to tinker with the stuff down there.

Do I miss a/c?  No not really, would it be nice to have again?  Eh, I dont care really.  The car is old, I am old, I am use to it.  I just roll with the windows down and avoid stop & go traffic when/where I can.

Now will the UDP eventually mess up the engine with the dampener not being there?

I really dont care if i have the A/C in there or not.. Im not going to waste money to see if it works or not.. Most likely it wont.. Hopefully removing the condensor will help improve cooling to the intercooler and radiator..

i dont know- 134a seems to do wonders on these old AC systems, you could always take it all out and hold on to it so you have it.

yea i will be saving it i really never throw any of my car stuff away.. and i also did not destroy anything so it all is/will be reusable..

How much belt do you actually have on the Water Pump (WP) pully?  When I was lookig at mine today it looks like with the 3400 top end, & UDP, I'd only have 2-3 inches of belt touching the WP

2004 GTP -  3.8 Blown - Only modding for MPG.
1997 GTP  - 3.8 Blown - Too many mods to list.
1996 GTP - 3.4 DOHC - Twin to my 1997.
1995 SE - soon to be a 3.8 turbo car.
1990 TSTE x 2 white cloth
1990 TSTE x 1 maroon leather
1990 TGP - 5 speed.

My belt puts a decent amount of tension on the w/p pulley.  I can turn the pulley by hand, but it takes some effort.  Probably a little less effort than putting an oil filter on by hand.
If the water pump needs more than that amount of turning force, then there's something wrong.
I have done this 'mod' to a few 2.8/3.1's I owned.  Works fine every time.

My cousin did it to his Z24 3.1 turbo and all he got was a pulley and belt from a non AC car. If I remember correctly the pulley was from a Beretta or Corsica 2.8. Mine was wrecked in the front so I took mine all out but the compresser, but it will be coming out this spring. I dont care if I have AC in this car or not.
