Has anyone converted to a 98+ OBD2 configuration? (why 98? cause the 96/97 obd2 pcms SUCK,)

Also has anyone adapted a 4t65e-HD yet?

I am still on my quest to find one locally-ish to my area that isn't ragged to hell.. been wanting one since 1990 when I was ten and my dad test drove one.

I would be disabling ABS obviously with the conversion, so that would be yanked.

Bigger radiator
bigger fuel pump
bigger injectors
bigger turbo
bigger ic
all new catback
built tranny
and most likely custom turbo grind cam

My current built 98 gtp is about to the point to were i either go turbo or call it quits as there isn't much left to do other then finish the tune and take it back to the track (first run with the setup was 12.5@109) Got another few tenths to knock off easily to get closer to 11's, as I never got to spend much time on the tune before the track event i went to.

Plus I use to work for DHP until it closed doors, and now write my own scanner package to work with the AVT hardware, so i like to dink around.

Am i just retarded, or think it could be done with out pulling much hair?

Not trying to sound like a dick or anything, but are all these questions based towards a 3.1 TGP and converted to OBD2?
Whats wrong with just tuning the OBD1 computer in a 3.1 instead of converting it to OBD2.  You may as well swap in a 3400 first, 3.1s don't have the cam position sensor and I dunno what other sensors it wants to have the 3.1 doesn't.

I don't believe anyone has converted a 3.1 TGP to a 4t65e-HD either.  The general consensus is that the pigtail for the trans sits directly where a stock crossover/turbo setup on the TGP sits.  It's been tossed around of throwing the internals in a 4t60 case though.

By disabling the ABS does that mean swapping to a vacuum assist brakes setup?

The rest of the stuff has been done before, or can be.  A bigger radiator would be simple, just do a front mount and put in regular w-body radiator to take up the space.
Bigger fuel pump, a 255 or whatever its called works fine.
The rest of the stuff just goes along with tuning.  Our TGP has LS1 injectors and a GT3076R turbo, entire custom exhaust, no big deal.  Trans is rebuilt, has held up to the bigger turbo with no issues thus far.

Careful on a custom grind turbo cam, if it's specs are too turbo friendly you'll likely lose a lot of bottom end like our motor did before it went flat.  The best would probably just be a 272-H cam, still has good bottom end and good mid/upper range power as well.  May not be complete turbo spec but will keep your bottom end and the turbo will surely be enough to overcome and shortfalls it has with not being designed for a turbo.

Last suggestion, if you want to go faster, have you considered working with physics instead of against it? (RWD).....

to/for me dealing with OBD2 is easier and quicker.. plus i have all the hardware here already.

I doubt i would be keeping the manifold/cross over setup so position everything so it wouldnt be an issue with the 65e harness.

Going to the obd2 pcm setup would to me , mean loosing the abs function as the hardware doesn't match. This is a common issue with guys with 97 gp's going to the 98 pcm setup. vac lines and all still there.

I go just go get a fiero , dump a L67 and bolt a turbo inplace of the down pipe, A/W IC, injectors, blah, and run 11's... or get a g8 ..

ive own 4 gp's in the past 10 yrs... 90 3.1 ,94 gtp, and i have the 2 98 gtp's currently (currently as in the last 10yrs)

Now i havent kept up on 3.1 or 3x00 tech for some years... i know it was said that the tgp 3.1 was stronger then the norm (the block that is) is that still holding true? if so was it by much to be worth?  I could get 3x00 and use that as my base to dump in and work from there. Just trying to gather all the details I need to do this right the first time :)

In my honest opinion, I would swap to a 3900 and use a 4t65E-HD IF I were to be insane and want to swap to obd2.

I feel the 3.1MPFI is a very stout/brute motor.  It can take the abuse you would want to throw at it and ask for more.  Just like any engine, you do have to pay attention to it and replace parts/modify stuff to keep it up to snuff.  Adding an oil line going to the cam lobes would be a great investment.

Personally, the 3100's (big and small port) and 3400's (all gens) are CRAP.  They spew coolant from the LIM (internally or externally your pick) and number 5 cylinder always seems to fail (leaks coolant into the cylinder) .  They develop piston skirt tap, twist cams, snap cams, vacuum lines running everywhere...  Just a bowl of hell ready to be ate, the engine will supply the milk shake.

The 3500 may seem like another form of the 31/3400's, but I have notice a slightly better reliability with them.... of course they really have not been out that long.  The 3900 needs more aftermarket, I say make that wave with it.

Hope you like wiring!  Otherwise a full aftermarket cluster is in store for you to fabricate!

A guy over on Abody.net nambed Turboknetic or somthing has swapped the 4T60 from his Turbo 3.8 Century to a 4t65HD with easliy, but the wire harness in the way of the turbo is our problem....
