But no stranger to a grand prix. I've been trying and trying to get my hands on a TGP for 4 years now and my dream has finally come true. Im kinda in a trance state right now. I look at the car, and I know its mine, but it just hasn't sunk in yet.

I bought the car from psych0matt on w-body. I paid $1200 for her. She's got 156k miles. I drove up to Michigan from central Illinois to buy the car, and drove the car back home. Matt told me that it didn't have 3rd gear which was ok, I could drive all the way home in second and maybe if Im lucky get it in 4th. That didn't happen. When I got the car, the only gear which actually worked was 1st. 2nd gear would catch but it would slip if I tried to accelerate. I drove most of the way home between 40 and 55 mph.

My other car:

Anyway. I have to ask...

How do I get up to speed on TGP's. Im going to have the engine and trans out soon for a rebuild. And yes, I like to race. I race my red one, take her to the track a couple times a year.
I don't know the first thing about the LG5. It might have a chip already. Where do I get started?

Finally,

Her name is Betty... Black Betty

The '96s name is Eleanor. (NO NOT LIKE THE MUSTANG ON GONE IN 60SEC)

Black, with the lower spoiler, nice!

I hope you didn't actually use that "buffer" on the entire car?  If so you used a whole lot a time and didn't gain a whole lot from it.  If you want to get some good results get yourself a Porter Cable 7424 or similar.  Throw get a wool pad and some Meguiar's 105 Compound.  Get a whole lot more results for the effort and remove a whole ton more spider webs :icon_mrgreen:

I found a guy on ebay that sells 4t60 trans rebuild kits on ebay and I asked him about the extra clutch plate and the different shift solenoid for the TGPS and he said when you purchase the kit send him a message and about it and he will send you the proper shift solenoid for an extra $100 and the clutch plate comes with the kit. only problem my ebay message was deleted from being old so I can't remember which one it was so be sure to ask.

Are you sure it only had 1st gear? 1st gear @ 40mph would be running some pretty high rpms(around 5Kish). :icon_eek:

NTRCOOLER do you have a link for this rebuild kit, or the name of the company? I would like to rebuild mine once I replace it.   Thanks

It would shift into second but it wouldn't hold the gear if you gave it a whole lot of throttle. Actually, my top speed going home was 60mph going down a huge hill.

Does anybody have any idea whats wrong with the trans. It would shift into all 4 gears but it would slip if you gave it any throttle.

Looks like one of skalors old cars. Could be wrong tho. Most likely the clutches and steels are toast along with all the seals... A full rebuild and a new torque converter is what you will need, Or just swap in a 5 speed.   ;)

What do you mean by "hold the gear" if you gave it a "whole lot of throttle" in second?  That could simply be the downshift cable or whatever they are called adjusted wrong.  If you really want to test it, disconnect it from the throttle body and drive it and see what gears hold and what don't.  The slipping in 4th gear with any throttle sounds basically like it's screwed anyway though. :icon_confused:

Can I get some history on the car? I see it has a 160* tstat, STB, the xover and downpipe have been wrapped. Looks like it got a new set of ball joints lately and the tierods are in good shape.

Anything else? Does it have a chip?

Pics!!!

Jon, that car has a 160* t-stat because it has a Topgun 160 chip in it along with a Jeff M. x-over. I remember that Jay ran a 15.21 @ 90 mph in it a few years ago when he still had it.
