its a shame cuz there was nothing wrong with this head, just needed a little cleaning

TGP Nick

How did bad motor mounts cause that? :skep:

Bad motor mounts may have contributed, but I doubt thats what caused it.

Yeah, I just couldn't figure out a way to work in the one member who claimed that adding a valance to his lightbulb kept it from overheating...

killinprixs

well what do you think caused it?  i remember all the bolts being tight when the 5 speed was dropped in, along with the 3 bolts to the block.

Wow that stinks. It could of been hair line cracks from previous work done, cross threading the bolts, and or over tightening of bolts. Anyway you look at it I cant see a bad mount snapping the head like that, but what do I know. Good luck getting it back together.

x2, something was wrong with the head itself that would cause it to break like that, they may be aluminum but they are pretty tough.

It was likely overtightened at some point in the past. I've seen one like that in the junkyard before along with quite a few broken intake manifolds(one of those manifolds was broken in both spots where the rear upper valve cover bolts thread in) on 3.1's from being overtightened. I think some people think to themselves "this bolt isn't tight enough until I hear some cracking noises."

well i never did touch the head bolts on this motor and the break is below the head bolt so who knows.  may have over tightened that mount at one point., oh well im sure ill have more stuff breaking in the near future so ill put this one in the past.

:icon_eek:  That's crazy...how does the bracket look like?   If your looking for a head, 1990 lumina euros are soppose to have the TGP head too. Just look for the head numbers.
