at the times when you keep your foot out of it, is your highway mpg good if/when you cruise & not lay on it? i do realize that most of you probably dont know what your highway mpg cruising & not getting on it, but im sure some of you do. if you dont spool up your turbo & just cruised at 65 what kind of mpg do you get?

im either going supercharger or twin turbo, but the whole gas mileage thing concerns me because id like to be able to take this thing on long trips & be able to get good mpg -if/when- i put effort into getting the good mpg (aka not romping on it). also this will be 5 speed swap if that tells you anything.

the way i see it, lag-good mpg when not spooling if tuned for it-am i incorrect?

also if you turn down your boost & run like 2psi & drive it nice-hows your mpg (for any of you that might have tried)?

LoL on a total highway trip with maybe one or 2 hard runs to pass people, i can maybe squeeze off 20-22 mpg. Terrible, you have to drive like a total grandma to get anything close to the EPA 16/26. Even then i cant get my car to get good mileage.

My car is in great running condition and all the highways are pretty flat here. I have no problem seeing 28-30mpg on the highway @ 60-65mph. That's taking it easy. If you start romping on the gas, take off from redlights hard, etc. your gas mileage is going to suffer.

On the only highway trip I ever took, I averaged a little over 31 MPG at an average speed of 62MPH.

Now I'm averaging 20 MPG with a mix of city and highway.. something is wrong with my car.

I am getting about 32mpg with the 5 speed, Before that about 28mpg. I would GUESS that it's fuel related. The ford injectors and known for clogging up and the end result is poor fuel economy and slight misfiring at idle...   :icon_sad:

thanks for the help guys-its good to know that the turbo doesnt rape gas mileage when you're driving like you -want- to get good mpg! i just wanted to make sure that by the off chance that i do go twin turbo, that if theres tons of lag & i dont spool up the turbos-that i can still go on long trips & get good mpg-after reading how many people average 20mpg i was getting kinda scared that would be the case-but its good to know that people are getting that kind of mileage in town when they try to get good mpg.

also i make a lot of threads but they are about different topics, so i can get my questions answered by knowledgeable people like you guys & not have to hijack the crap out of threads that dont fully pertain to the information that i seek.

I was pulling 22-24 on the Highway with out TGP before the cam went flat.  Not bad for a built motor and a GT30 turbo I guess  :icon_eek:

what vehicle was this in? 24mpg doesnt thrill me if thats driving it like a grandma, hell 350's can do that... if thats with mixed-running it-thats sweet!

My 22-4 was in our TGP with a built 3.2 and a GT3076R turbo....before the cam went flat.  I tuned it with a Haltech so I have both an advantage and a disadvantage.  Always tuning which of course is going to screw up gas but good as I can take away fuel driving down the road whenever I want.  No it wasn't driving like a grandma, it was more highway than city though and I'm not one to do anywhere over 95 unless I'm trying to tune a run anywhere into 3rd gear as the top of 2nd/into 3rd is breaking just about every speeding law on the roads.

3.2? what the hell made it a 3.2?

that reminds me of that beautiful isuzu 3.2 4 valve short stroke engine-that bolts right to our tranny's :D

but seriously...what made it a 3.2, overbore & pistons or did you do the unthinkable & had this thing stroked (probably a dumb question, but you did say -built- and some people take that shit to the next level so it figure it doesnt hurt to ask)?

GOT2B GM

Mostly highway running at around 75 MPH I saw 27 MPG in my TGP a couple weeks ago on a roadtrip to Dayton Ohio and back.

3.2? what the hell made it a 3.2?

a .030 overbore puts us right under/at 3.2.
