im thinking about starting the long haul of buying parts for a high hp 3.1 buildup (400-450hp)-my question is, what are the tgp cranks made out of, are they forged, & has anyone pushed them past their limits so far?

all i seem to be able to find out is that they are heat treated & hardened.

I answered in the for sale thread. TGP crank is no different from the NA ones. I don't recall anyone breaking a crankshaft in any of these cars.

if there are no differences why am i reading everywhere (but here of course) that the tgp cranks are hardened & etc...? is this just from the same heating process that could be done to a non-tgp crank?

Dark Ride

The blocks are hardened but I do not believe the cranks are.

Yeah, I just couldn't figure out a way to work in the one member who claimed that adding a valance to his lightbulb kept it from overheating...

Because there is a ton of misinformation out there...

The tgp cranks are just as tough if not weaker than the NA cranks.. .iv heard of people pushing the NA cranks pritty hard... i havent torn down my engine yet, but from the play in the flywheel im pritty sure the crank broke in my STE's engine...

TurboGTU

Just hardened . and the block was selected for its more nickle content. A newer 3100 block is stouter than a old TGP engine in the crank case. It has a girdle. Where the head bolts go, the 3100 has more meat to clamp on to. The TGP does have a high volume pump. In other words, save up for a 3100 to a 3500. But the death rattle will kill any engine. Tune wise.
