ford yellow tops question- pic

anyone who swapped these in recently recall if they looked like this on the bottom?  I swapped in a set of yellow tops a few years back for a short time but dont remember if they looked like that on the bottom, just wondering if anyone could varify they will work or not.  thanks!

Strange... the bottom of the Yellow Tops in my TGP look like the injector pictured on the left.

X2 mine look like the ones on the left too.

That's what a yellow top looks like after the pintle cap is pried off. I can't tell for sure, but it looks like the spacer/washer isn't on that injector either(above the o-ring).



I think the rest of you are getting the tops confused w/ the bottoms. ;) I've never seen yellow tops that have the bottom like a stock rochester injector. Throughout the late 80's to at least the mid 2000's(up to 2003-2004 I know) with this body style injector, they've all looked like the ones I posted above.

thanks for the info, so i should be alright then?  i put a set of yellow tops in my other car a few years back but only for about a month before going to 30s, i just dont remember looking at the bottom.  Its just wierd like there not too much actually kepping the bottom O-ring from falling into the motor, is that what you mean?

My bad, I was thinking of the injectors in my 91.. I just had them out not too long ago.  The yellow tops look exactly as the pic Matt posted.

I'm not sure if I would use the injectors without the pintle caps or not. They're there for a reason, or the OEM's would have ordered injectors without them to save money. There are a lot of places online where you can get pintle caps for those injectors...

Here's a little blurb I found in a quick google search.

"When the vehicle engine is shut down
some of the intake valves will naturally be left
open. This allows the heat inside the cylinder to
rise past the intake valve to the injector area (Fig.
6). There may still be some residue of fuel on the
pintle tip of the injector, which protrudes from the
end of the injector. The heat begins to bake this
residue of fuel onto the injector pintle. This leads
to a buildup over time that causes poor fuel spray,
lean mixtures, poor driveability and high emis-
sions.
A pintle cap has been used by some
manufacturers to try to reduce the deposits on
these style injectors. These pintle caps have many
different designs. Some of these are shown in"

You do need those caps. Our intakes don't have stops to keep the ring from sucking down the runner. Its been a long time but I got those caps from Napa with new o-rings.
