Posted on w-body, figured i would see what you guys thought. A kid in my auto class went out and bought a 1997 vette. Its a base model with a 6speed (big whoop). Well after i had my new cold air kit made the next day at school we left and he tried to mess with me. We took off from the light and was babying it through first. When he went into second there was room between us so i 1/4 pedaled it and was on his bumper. He seen that and tried to take off. I went to half pedal and he couldnt pull me. After that he hurried up and jumped over and slowed down. He was mad! My little stock v6 kept up with his "big bad" vette. I thought it was hilarious. What do u guys think?

Why did you put a cold air intake on an intercooled vehicle? Do you know what an intercooler does?

I'm not 100% sure if it, well, cools the air after it passes through the turbo and goes into the engine, according to what I can see in the engine bay and my common sense. I'd like to know more, and, apparently, so would jarrade.  :icon_lol:

yes i kno what an intercooler does. Did you even look at the picture? I relocated the filter so it direct feeds COLD air into the turbo. look at the pic if u already havent then maybe you will understand.

That makes sense now. I thought the turbo was already cooled by liquid, but if it helps...

Either the guy can't drive a stick to save his life or something is severely wrong w/ the Corvette. A 1997 has 345hp and weighs less than our cars, so they're way faster.

...Or you could just say that one of our TGP's beat a 'vette and be done with it.  :naughty:

So you are feeding cold air to a turbo, the turbo compresses the air and heats it to about 250*, then it's sent to the intercooler to cool the charge to about 130* before it goes into the engine.

Yea, that was a good way to spend your money. Good call chief. You got like 75 horsepower out of it too, didn't you?

wow whats going on in here?    :leaving:

A cold air doesn't add 75 hp, but it sure is better than sucking air from the stock air box or from the engine bay, directly behind the intercooler!

When you compress a fluid, the temperature increases a given amount, however, the lower the initial temperature is, the lower the final temperature is. Of course the intercooler decreases the temperature a great amount, but the final temperature would be lower if it enters at a lower temperature.

If adding cold air to a turbo/intercooled engine is useless, why do they make some for Subaru STi. The graph below is from a stock STi with and without Injen cold air intake.

As for the original topic, you should take on that Vette side to side with a video too maybe. Whichever the winner, it could be fun to watch!

thanks for the good info maxlap21 not only do you benifit from the slightly reduced inlet air temp you also benifit from the reduced restriction of the larger air filter.the less work the compressor has to do to to compress the air the less it is heated and the more cfm you get at the same psi vs.tem rise
