I was just thinking about buying a new exhaust i was wondering what kind of gains i would get from 3in exhaust with flowmasters and taking off the car or if it would just be a waste of my money?

turby

Take the cat. off. It will help more than performance. It may also clear up some driveability issues also.

Hi  I'm in the same boat. I'm doing a complete rebuild and would like to know what combinations will fit. I have a totally hollowed out cat with the stock mufflers 66kmi. I can tell you the hollowed cat produces a lower growl and a noticeable pickup.  I'm looking to use a hi-flo cat with flanges so I can use a straight section after inspection. I would like to use a good lo flo muffler with large dual round tips on each side. Any thoughts. Summit has a nice selection of both. I have my own lift here and this is easy work. Good luck

If you ever want to discuss exhaust and whatnot, feel free to IM me on AOL...my handle is Platjblser. If you don't care about having a loud exhaust although from what most say, a turbocharged car isn't going to be super loud anyway, I'd say go with Dynomax Bullet racing mufflers for the price($32 a piece from Summitracing.com) and pretty much any high flow cat. Also 2.5'' mandrel bent piping or 3''(a little more costly) all the way would be pretty beneficial for flow. I believe that they say a 3'' exhaust will help with turbo spool up time too.

EDIT: here is a picture of the exhaust tips I have on my 93 GP SE, they were $98 shipped to my door from JC Whitney. Specs are 2.5'' inlet(I think) and dual dual 3'' outlets

Going to 3" won't help you a whole lot over the 2.5" pipe if you don't upgrade to a larger downpipe...because the downpipe still creates a bottleneck. I'm going with 2.5" mandrel bent pipe..no cat....and two flo pro racing mufflers, but I'm really hoping to find a place that can make me a new downpipe, because the effect isn't as great without that.  :( And mfewtrail is right..the turbo isn't going to be super loud anyway. The best way would be to go with no mufflers...as stated on Chris A's site. :D But some law enforcement officers frown upon having no mufflers on your car.
