Im moving to Los Angeles and, unfortunately, have to get a UHaul trailer and pull it with my TGP. Has anyone ever towed anything like this for a long distance, especially through the mountains? Total weight will be about 1700 pounds. I have had no tranny problems as of yet, it still works just fine. 104,000 miles.

Basically Im going to get a fresh tranny fluid change, run synthetic oil and keep it in Drive through hilly terrain to keep the constant Drive/Overdrive war from happening.

Any suggestions/stories? Thanx

Dave

P.S. Of course the hitch is going to come right off!!

I towed mine through the Utah Mtn's behind an escalade. the Escalade started adjusting itself to pulling the TGP up hills.

Made a 8hr (per mapquest) trip in 6hrs 1 way and 6.5hrs the other (towing car on 2nd trip).. we where hauling the trayler w/ car doing 95mph for quite some time. The trailer says 45mph on it.. LMAO! we did more then 2x the trailor recomendations.. Granted we did get a blow out on one of the trailor... the fact that we where doing 95mph has nothing to do w/ the fact we got a flat

But i have never towed anything w/ any of my cars.. DUDE, leave the hitch on it looks SWEET!

Unfortunately, My first TGP had a hitch on it...it was only the smaller 1" or so jobber though.  Something to keep in mind though...on my car they had to cut a hole in the GFX underneath the liscense plate for the hitch to come through. I meet the previous owner(worked with him) and asked him what the hell he was thinking cutting the rear GFX jsut to put a hitch on it.  He just replied that he needed to tow stuff.

why not get a U-Haul truck and have someone else drive the TGP?  U-Haul allows you to drop off the trucks in other locations/states, or at least they do around here.

You better use every stay cool trick in the books if you don't want to overheat.  Such as, heavier weight synthetic oil, "Water Wetter" coolant additive, Install an extra cooling fan on front of radiator, Jeff M. says we can run an extra 4 quarts of trans fluid,  tighten all fluid line clamps.
Use 3rd gear on any thing but flat cruising.  4th gear only has one cluth plate I hear and I lost 4th on a previous w-body car.  Good Luck.

I just purchased a 5spd 3.4L 92 GP SE..and it has a trailer hitch cut into the back fascia     That sure ruined the rear fascia. Good thing I only paid $100 for the car
