How much should I look to pay for a shop tp do a full tranni rebuild?

I bought my 1st TGP from a trans shop, where the initial estimate was $695 but the final cost was $1600.  I have heard others paying anywhere over $1000.  I paid $1050 for  a n/a 4t60  on a 90 Lumina.  These prices were at least 4 years ago though.

For a repudable shop to repair and replace your tranny it will be anywhere from $1200 to $1800. Ask them a minor question like...does the TGP tranny get beefier clutch packs than the plain jane Grand Prix? If they answer No...go to another shop and don't look back!!  8)

Or you could ask them if the valve body is different between N/A and Turbo.  If they say no, walk.
