I was on my way home just now and I made a left turn when I hear a horn blowing. I'm thinking WTF? I know there were no cars coming. So I make the right down my road and there's the horn again. WTF???? I look down just in time to see a small puff of smoke coming out of the right side of my steering column. Is there a fusible link in there for the horn? I'm thinking from turning the wheel and twisting the wires for 12 years a wire broke and shorted out. Any ideas?

I know the turn signal switch is a common problem and mine already needs replaced. I didn't know it had anything to do with the horn though. I've never had the wheel off on a car and I wasn't sure what all is in there. Thanks for the info idbeast.

My car has nothing wrong with the horn (as far as I can tell) and the turn signals seem to work fine (again, so far as I can tell) but sometimes when I park my car overnight and have the steering wheel turned a bit, it will shoot some whispy smoke out of the center of the sterring collumn when I try to start the car in the morning.  If I turn it right off then back on again, no more smoke comes out. Or if i just let it smoke for about 3 seconds it stops and then everything works fine again.  you think my problem is with the turn signal as well?

I had to change the turn signal switch on my lumina, and soon here on the TGP. It's not a bad job at all, just pull the well, remove the switch, unplug it from the harness under the dash, and installation is reverse of removal.
My lumina didn't have any steering wheel controls for the radio, so I don't know what all wires are involved with that. But I imagine it can't be too terribly much.
