my car runs decent but it has a lot of the problems you guys talk about....rough idle...low end power missing....and it smells like it runs terribly rich...i was just wondering what i need to do to fix this.

yeah i know about the whole x-over thing lol....its pretty apparent that thats a definate problem...but i didnt think that it caused rough idle and a loss of low end power that much....but im only sixteen so im probably wrong...thanks though

The problem is if you have an x over leaking(drawing in air) the 02 isn't gettin the proper info, therefore your computer is not getting the proper info. You can tell if its leaking by looking around it also. you will see a black soot generally at the end of the heat shields and what ever is infront of these openings.

You may or may not notice loss of low end power but the computer is always trying to play catchup cause its getting the wrong readings. Remeber its sniffts oxygen and is calibrated to run the computer at idle at a certain voltage (about .5) if that voltage is not in its range it will hunt, therefore stalling and irregular idle. The 02 is the biggest controller of fuel. Could be other problems but there are only two kinds of TGP's ones that have a new xover and the ones that will get a new one.

Hope that helps. Check it out.

thanks for the info.....installed a new 02 sensor and it seemed to only make the problem worse!!!  I guess i will be buying a new x-over soon.

My car was running awful once, thought it was crossover, but was a bad coil pack. One thing to try is disconnect O2 sensor, then pull fuse by the fuel pump relay for a minute. Replace fuse and run with O2 sensor off. This will cause car to run  open loop mode, ignoring O2 sensor, if car runs decent (except under boost), then I would suspect Xover. but if it still has rough idle, then something else is wrong. I found my bad coil pack by hooking timing light to each spark plug wire, found two that were missing some flashes, that corresponded to rought idle.

The age and mileage of these cars will find you replacing the x over and the wires by now and maybe a coil, O2 sensor, etc  The car has amazing performance once these issues are addressed. I 've been there w/all the problems and they're all taken care of. The emissions are so lo on this car he had to reset the 'puter twice to double check the lo readings. The exhaust tips are as clean as new and installed them 2 months ago. Good luck on your car.

Must have found the magic sensor to get that!!

thanks guys...i took my plugs out to find that they were the bosch platinum plugs...i heard that you dont want ot use these....run by me again why not?  Just curious and wondering if this could have lead to rough idle? thanks

platinum plugs are poor heat conducters, not preferred for high output use

thanks...so i should switch to some other conducter then?  Stock plugs are fine right?

If u can find a set of R42's ( i think ) or #8 AC Delco Rapidfires.  The #8's have been changed to a platinum plug but if you are lucky you might find a set somewhere around ya.  They weren't too pricey either.

I almost forgot, a leaky fuel preasure regulator could be letting in
excessive gas, make sure diaphram can hold vacume.
