95GTP

I had it delivered today.  The 90 TGP, it needs a ton of work.

1. First the wheels are scheit, all gouged,
2. Tires,
3. Exhaust is gone, rusted through,
4. The dist o-ring leaks, been there before with the GTP,
5. Interior needs a super cleaning, it smells, seats are not torn,
6. radio is aftermarket crap and the speakers are gone,
7. engine runs like schiet, it chuggs at 3500 rpm and wont go above that,
8. brakes are fuct,
9. louver above the turbo is all bubbled,
10. dents along the drivers side,
11. drivers door handle busted,
12. dont know about the turbo unit,
13. smokes
14. under carrage is rusted from sitting along time,

probably more stuff once I decide to get into it.

What am I lookin at about $500++ (more like a grand) to do the work myself just to get it on the street?

Honestly guys, is it worth it??  It has 155K miles too..

I guess I'll start with who has a box of extra parts they dont want?  Maybe I have what you need if I decide to part it out.

I need ideas.....

check it out at this link.

It doesn't look all that bad in the pics but from your description you have a long road ahead of you.  Great buy though.  At $500 you would at least make your money back if you decide to part it out.

I would hate to part it out but the thing is already starting to piss me off.

My #7, engine chugging, one guy on another forum mentioned that the neutral switch might be causing that (rev limiter get a signal from it) and now I really think thats a problem since it will not ever start now, not even crank.  Its not the battery, it just wont do a damn thing.

It will have to sit till I get time to work on it.

Anyone ever change one of those neutral switches?

yea, like the ORANGE accents in the engine compartment? WTF.

What?  You don't like the orange?  It must have some performance enhancing properties!  Acts as a heat shield for the air intake?  Streamlines the engine for better aerodynamics?

IIRC, the NSS isn't too bad in the car.

I honestly can't remember how I accessed it, maybe a combination of through the wheel well and moving the cruise control.

The Burning Rom

I wouldn't part it out. My TGP was (and still is) in as bad of shape as this one when I bought it back in february. I've spent around $1,000 on parts so far that are sitting in storage. And that's just the tip of the ice-berg. But it's just so much fun to get behind the wheel of a TGP, that it's worth it!

I fully agree, I think mine is in worse shape than that, thankfullly I have an friend helping me get it running.

How bad is yours really?
- Last owner siliconed the sunroof shut - just needed $15.00 seal
- Last owner plugged the wastegate @ sea level - blowing headgasket / warping head / warping lower intake mainfold.
- Last owner (who towed it to my location) broke mirror, dented (more) and tore the front valance cover off towing it to me.
- Last owner randomly picked wires to cut or various items?

It may look like a basket case right now but I still love it and have loved each and every one of the 8 grand prix's I have  / have had!

All good things come with time.....dont you go over the virtues of paitence teaching SERE for the AF??????

AF SERE is for the weak ones, east coast Navy SERE is for real men.

You guys are making me feel better already. :)

I'll let you know how it goes.  I dont have time to mess with it this weekend.  Moving one daughter to Rhode Island for college and the other across town portland to a new apt.  I'll be very busy with that.

worst of all I did a stupid thing, I lent my jack and some other tools out.  I usually never lend tools to anyone, now I have to get them back.

Chech out the site now i just updated some close ups of the FLAWS.  The pics you saw actually made it look better that it is up close.

By the way GPChief, you wouldnt happen to know a guy named Bob Newman?  He was a GySgt at SERE here a few years back and really into the outdoors (hunting, fishing), he writes for a few mags and stuff like that, he lives in your neck of the woods.

Now I see what you where talking about! What the hell did someone do to that rim?  I don't think I've ever seen a rim that torn up...and still on a car.

For $500 its still worth it.  as long as its not your daily driver you got plenty of time :D
hi-flow intake, straight pipe, dsm bov, 24lb inj,  polished upper intake, turbo, and frt valve cover.

holy crap, I've never seen something like that happen to a wheel, I've seen some bent to hell and back, but never chewed up looking. Someone must have rode the curb in that thing for a few miles
'93 SE, '90 Black/tan TGP, & '90 Red/tan TGP

95GTP

Thats just one of them, two others are just as bad.  One looks like it was replaced before. The paint looks different.

My daughter did something like that to my GTP. Yea she paid for a replacement, she felt real bad about it too.

believe me, those crosslace wheels are hard to find.

95GTP,

Dont know any Newmans - I did Army SERE level III several years ago, I'm an SF guy 8) .  The only Marine I have delt with that I have any respect for is an (what ever the heck an E-9 is in the corps), used to be on the "dark side" great guy saw him in Iraq, being a body guard for some vip.

There is a guy in Ohio "Carl" - blackzo6@yahoo.com,  he has a set of rims that are in good shape. (I have seen them).

Thanks for the tip on the wheels.

Not sure how much I want to do with it yet.  I still havent had a chance to see why it wont start.  Just to busy lately.

I would put on a cat converter, I had a plugged one and it also wouldn't run above 3500rpm, fought it for months trying to figue it out (in my early TGP ownership years). :drinking:
As for the not starting if the NSS doesn't fix it there are some fusable links in the wiring harness located in the wiring harness below the positive battery jumper connector, which is also located on the front of the drivers shock tower. :drinking:
