Hello i was wondering is there a difference between the turbo 3.1 and a regular 3.1? I mean besides the obvious, like are they different blocks? I want to build my current 3.1 to the tgp specs and add a turbo. thanx, and sorry if this was beaten to death but i tried a search.

turbo block is a tiny bit taller, and the crank is hardened.

I believe the blocks are the same..the heads are slightly different though(the reg ones are decked if I'm remembering right for that slight bump in compression ratio) ..I think it was sleeperred90tgp that posted this information on the w-body board.  Also the air intake temp sensor is located in the intake plenum/upper intake on the turbo 3.1 vs the regular 3.1 having it in the airbox.  The transmission is different from the regular 4T60's as well.  Sleeperred90tgp..if you could confirm/correct the head/block thing..please chime in so I don't mislead anyone w/ the wrong info   8)

EDIT: search the w-body(www.w-body.com/forum) in the TGP section...a lot of people have asked about turbocharging a regular 3.1 and the differences between the two have been covered a few times there.

Here are some of the differences.

Rods are about 1/8 wider at the wrist pin bore and have there own p/n. I did find n/a rods that matched. All the rods I looked at appear a little different in the beam area although the weight is about the same. Cam?s are perceived to be the same although I have never measured the duration, only lift.

Cranks, there the same except for the first notch on the reluctor ring. Looks like a degree or two in initial timing.
Balance weight is within 2 or 3 grams. TGP on left.
